I've seen some people putting 996/986Boxster S calipers on their E36s with 325/345mm discs.

Has anyone done this on a Z3 and how did it work out? The conversion would be significantly cheaper than buying a big brake kit yet have the same result.

i've heard that it works but you need to get the calipers machined a little.
then you can run M3 brake discs, loads of infor if you google it.

im not sure the price of this is even worth it based on the cost of the discs too.

you can also fit 330ci brakes if you wanna go a little bigger

This can be done, there are specific brackets that you need to buy to mount the calipers, if you want to stay stock 17" then you will run the 325mm disc and will need to machine a small amount off the bottom of the caliper, I had this done to a set, without the modification you will need to run 18" wheels and then you can use the 345mm discs.

Once the calipers are fitted a small spacer is required to push out the wheels to clear the caliper.

I am running e46 callipers with 300mm discs. I find the extra braking very good. Weather you would actually need to go any bigger would probably be down to your driving style and if you were proposing track days. The conversation was a simple calliper carrier and calliper change straight bolt on. The extra surface area is well worth the £££'s I have Brembo pads on the front too.

Remember as @Brian H told me. Becareful on the callipers as you might need to upgrade the whole brake system to a dual set up like the M3's already have. Brake imbalance will spin you quicker than anything.
