Hi all,
I made a really good job of polishing the Zed the other week. But my poor ole bones were aching like mad the following day:inpain:.
So I am thinking of getting a polisher to spare me the pain! It has to be a battery model though, I don't think folk would take too kindly to me trailing a 240v extension lead across a busy main road!
I have had a look at a few, and there are only a few, the one that seems to be right is the Ryobi R18B - 0.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ryobi-R18B...568&sr=1-2-catcorr&keywords=battery++polisher

The charger and batteries are extra, but for less than £150, including extra pads, doesn't seem too bad.
Has anyone used these, or has anyone any other suggestions of other makes?
I know there are hardy souls out there that swear by polishing by hand, but not at my time of life!!:nurse::nurse:
Colin.

I bought a dual action machine and used it once.
The way it vibrates for me is horrible and make any arms feel funny- would prefer a straight rotary action on that basis alone.

Just my 2p on limited use (a big reason why it’s only been used once though)

I love my DAS Pro DA. With 3M compounds the results have been amazing.

It's noisy but I don't find the action a problem. But heavy after a while.

However it's mains.

I trialed a DA and oh my god what a laborious job, I did half a bonnet and gave it back, I use a direct drive, much much faster

But us amateurs aren't really allowed to use a single orbit sander in case we burn the paint?

We have recently purchased a Roar polisher for less then £100 and it could be used by anyone as it has 10 settings, I never use it beyond 6 and its brilliant, cuts really well with G3 and finish with a glaze

That sounds good.

I’m going to try and remove the thing that makes it ‘dual’ action so it’s straight, I saw you mention it some time back.
I’d rather just be careful than deal with the shaking!

Yes we have a small pnumatic one that was DA, I put a rivet in it so it became direct

I had a look at the Roar, but it's a mains type.
I did see a Hawk 10.8v 4" which maybe okay, although I'm not sure about the attachments, whether you can get the spare pads, etc, easily.
The other thing is regarding the 'swirls' that folk say the rotary ones leave? Anyone had experience with that happening?
I can appreciate the vibration effect, I had to do HARM testing on all the machines that the grounds dept used when at work. There was a big 'hoo-haa' when the council found they could be liable for 'white finger' damage! They spent thousands on test equipment, new machinery and sending two of us on courses!
Colin.
