Please can I have some help

If it jumped a tooth it can and made a valve soup. Cranking it will just make it worse untill it totally eats all the moving parts.
Get another engine, do the timing chain for preventative reasons and youre good to go.
Just swapping can be done at a shed with basic tools. Plug and play.
The cost may not be worth the aggro. A 2011 (ish) N20 E89 Z4 with average miles can be had for around £5k now in the UK. Hopefully without a bust camchain/ engine!

Or even a nice N52 23i with a much more reliable engine can be had for the same money.

Hm! Given this info, then probably this is kaput.

They said they are snowed under at the moment and my Z will be at the top of the list soon.
Ive been at the same garage for over 30 years.
Seams like the new customers are coming 1st ……

Replacement N20 engines are not cheap, have a search on ebay for a guide.

Yes they are very expensive………
Then you have to pay to get it put into your car ……
My Z is perfect inside and out …….
How sad this is 🙁

Pity you can't get a second opinion.

The garage saying timing chain has jumped a tooth AND it's only running on 2 cylinders. Just sounds strange that the garage says it's jumped a tooth but they're still trying to start it. If mech suspect timing chain has a problem then you DO NOT turn the engine at all. Saying it's only firing on two is pants.

Depends on just how much has been bent inside the engine, if some of the valves have been kinked then it may well run on two. Not too hard to lift off the cam-cover and have a look, really.
Bit OT maybe, but I had a Transit come in once with a horrible clatter from the engine and a bad misfire, turned out the crank had snapped in half, just about managed to keep going, though.
And yes, I rebuilt it and it worked. Took a while, though.

I so wish I had time and space to help, so close, but so useless. Even the promise of @Shelly 's excellent sausage rolls can't change the shortage of time!

I suspect this may be a job the garage won't want either way. Pricing for a repair can't be done until the head and timing covers are off. Committing to fitting an unknown 2nd hand engine and the potential issues that may bring are possibly even less palatable. It can become a black hole for time.

Back in the day, it would have been just fix it.

Rule of thumb anyway is that when they skip a tooth, they work for a while untill they dont.
what bothers me is that the codes it popped have nothing to do with a timing chain.

Same here …….
We can’t understand it either……

We were thinking that too …..
Maybe I should get a different Z
And say Bye Bye to Snow White 😢
