One of my relatives recently sent me this and so I thought I'd share this photo of my Great Grandad Job Hughes taken during the First World War in 1915.

He was in 3rd Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment. Grandad Job is standing second left. Proper handsome chap.

After the war he used to box in boxing booths at travelling fairs and was a member of a number of boxing clubs and he told us that he regularly fought a couple of times a week, and that's after doing a shift down the pit. He never made any money out of it and said he boxed because he liked to have a scrap every now and again.

He told us a story about a particular bully sergeant who also boxed and if he ever lost to one of the ordinary privates he would give them hell so a lot of the lads used to let him get the better of them. Anyway, after the war Grandad Job came across him at a travelling fair and volunteered to face him in the boxing booth. Grandad said 10yrs of aggression came to the fore and he flattened him in the first round and he said it was the most satisfying pound note that he ever earned.

He was a right character right to the end, sadly he passed late 1970's.

I got some lovely camera gear boxes today, To keep my astro gear in on trips. Unbelievable that they were only 80 bucks each. and they are good, I am impressed by the build vs cost. IP rated too.... 80 bucks is about 50p in your money... =))

ehm. So these cameras can do extreme closeups? Like sitting on the top of a mountain and focus on a person on the beach?
Asking for a friend…

Could do with some more global warming down here (South coast England), 18 C and cloudy, rain forecast later!! :(
Think we had Summer in June.

This could also be titled as “my wife, god bless her soul, moments before that earthquake“.
sorry for the dark joke, but couldnt resist.

So, I've had this wood pigeon working hard for the last three days… Flying in and out of a hedge in my back garden, and collecting twigs non-stop. I kind of new what was going on, but...

Nature - 1.jpeg

Nature, eh?

yes. A marvel of nature, watching them hatch is a memory hard to forget. Equals that when later on they release their crap on your canvas top and leave a permanent mark on it.

But, even though she's likely to s*** on my on my top I can't stop but marvel at what's going on. She (I assume it's a she down to size) is sitting there incubating the egg. I would prefer to see a chick coming out of that egg than worrying about their shitnes… :D

It'll lay at least 1 more egg before long. Woodies have anywhere between 2 and 4 eggs as a rule.

Where I sit and chat to you guys. Not the fish, I haven't had a decent conversation with those yet.

This is a panoramic with a Nikon p900, sadly the resolution is not as it should be because of forum image restraints, we are the caravan car combo on the horizon far right.. curvature of the earth clearly visible as this was tripod mounted slew...

A stunning vista Shaun.
