Petrol cap question

Folks,
Is there meant to be a gasket around the petrol flap on the body work? When it rains, or the car gets washed, the area under the petrol cap fills with water and doesn't drain away. I've looked for a drain under the petrol cap and there isn't one, so the water just sits there.
Is this right?

Hi Phil, there is a tiny drain hole in the rubber surrounding the filler cap and it's common for these to block. If you have grass trimmer which uses 2-2.5 MM. cutting line this is ideal to poke through the drain tube. My old Z3 had this same issue mate.

It must be tiny, as I looked the other night. I'll have another look in a bit

This thread has given me a disproportionate bit of joy in my day. With all the rain we've had lately, I've been carting a lot of rainwater about!

I found it easier to find the tube near the r/o/w and push the strimmer cord up from the bottom, but then completely clean the rubber top area around the cap.
