Announcement Personal Information

Thanks for that. I take it you need to be a supporter before you can send PMs? How do you become a supporter then? Sorry just having some difficulties finding my way around this site! Managed to get a signature though, finally!!
What do you want it changed to Chris, and I'll edit your account.

No I'd prefer Sully, if that's ok? But yeah please go ahead and change it for me. Thanks

I am an investigator by trade and its amazing what you can dig up with a few facts about someone. Simply putting a phone number into google will direct someone to this forum if you have posted your tel number on a public post so they might then have a picture of the car you drive, the area you live in and whatever else you have chatted about.

Local council will give almost any person your details if they think they need it. Don't matter if you've filled the form in or not. So if someone wants the info it's really not hard to get. Just have to be aware of the fact.

They would have to comply with the Data Protection Act if they did and breach of this is a massive fine.

Your name , address and phone number is in the phone book

Not if you ex directory. I can not get working numbers even though i work in the industry any request has to backed with a full work order as per regulations.
The phone book is not so common now adays with non B.T Providers

Hi steveyorks,
Of course your right and your advice is well received, but I live in the real world and believe your and my so called personal info is known and shared by so many other people that it's really not personal at all, and what you perceive and what I perceive as personal could in fact be poles apart. Maybe you think that's very pessimistic but then you'd be right again. Just ask my neighbours and they'll innocently tell you all they know. 30yrs in government service have taken its toll. Good luck in your line of work but please be carefull how you obtain your info. No offence meant:happy:

Well said @Rha, usually all one needs is to get to a neighbour or friend and they'll spill more facts about you than you know yourself. No way around it and with all the cameras everywhere now they can quite easily tap in if they're tech conscious I believe. Don't do anything wrong no problems!! JIM

I always find it humorous how much information people hand over without much thought. Facebook is a prime example of people handing over incredibly useful information without even blinking. The big corporations hold so much information on you it's ridiculous, and the best thing is you just handed it to them and they didn't even need to pay for it!

Data is valuable, accurate data more so. Has quite a bearing on M.O.T. tests too. DVSA maybe sells data?

Tony.

I have nothing to hide that I know of do you?

No, and it does not bother me to be honest, they...? can collect all the data they like about me but why help them by posting phone numbers and e.mail address on a public forum?

TBH, I would be most p***** off if it led to an increase in junk emails and junk phone calls. We even get junk calls on the landline at the villa in Fla. and it gets very little use.

Tony.

You prize T**t!=))=)) It's 4,000 kin miles away, how'm I supposed to use it?;) Seriously though mate junk emails etc. really do bug me as it's just so easy to send that crap at very little cost.

Tony.
