Announcement Performance tweaks today

Had no trouble at all.

First off, I've merged the 2 problem threads together!

Secondly I think I have resolved the issue with being logged off. It's something that was documented, but I was waiting to see if it actually affected anyone before changing - no point in edit code unless you need to! Seems that it only happened when I went to bed last night. Anyways I've added the extra line of code and will see what happens.

Working so far this morning Gary, it would have kicked me off at this point last night 2 or 3 times. Thanks

I've been on now for some time as well Gaz. As Brian says would've been chucked off by now last night. Looks like the code edit has fixed it. Thanks

Hope you're not getting paid by the line of code Garry - gonna have to up your game to become a millionaire =))

I presume it was a config item you added.

Standard deployment process, minimise code changes where possible, test and rectify your if required. Was a greater chance I didn't have to modify any forum files, which potentially has a greater impact later on.

As it was, only 2 people knowingly affected kind of bears out my plan. Had the required code ready, and took 30 seconds to edit and ftp the file when i got to work this morning.

Can't wait to implement the next stage of the CloudFlare service...

Preparation and testing is worth the effort. A bit like the carpenters maxim - measure twice and cut once. Great work Gary - hope the post implementation stress has subsided

Only problem i''m finding Gary is when I start an @ so in so in the post I don't get the prompts as usual. Don't know if it's something new or my crap services here. JIM

Working fine fro home, but work computer now denying access due to site security issues.

But hey.....I should be working!

It's likely because you are on a VPN connection, or its something with the connection your company uses. I will be able to iron out things like this once I get some time to look at the system a bit more in depth.

I also have the security level on medium at the moment, which I plan to lower down which may fix it. Will update you as I go.

Kicked out a couple of times late on last night, all seems to be working fine now (phone)

All fine tonight Gaz. Your code tweak seems to have worked. :thankyou:

Been fine here, never noticed anything out of the ordinary.

Tony.

Stop trying to drag this off topic Noddy or you'll get in trouble again.;)

Reading your posts Jim you often put a space between the @ and the name of the member. Do it As one and you should be fine mate.

I know you all like the nerdy stuff... particularly @Mint, who held his own in a chat about reverse proxies on Sunday morning. So for Dave's benefit, here's some more... :D

This is to give you an idea on how the change is impacting the site for the good. Since we switched (in layman's terms) the server Z.org runs on has been working around 24% less harder than it would have been (even with the big increase in site traffic over the same period). This equates to a 20% drop in bandwidth being used as data is being pulled from a data centre closer to you, rather than the actual server in London. At 6.7GB saved, that's about a DVD and a half's worth of data which hasn't been handled by our server in 11 days.

The analytics system shows the top 5 countries at UK (no suprise), followed by the US, Norway, Germany and then the Netherlands. Rather surprised that we are so big with Norway in third place though.

Not at all surprised with the Netherlands, as there is only me and Roger who post often and then a couple of others who post on and off and the Dutch have their own well established Z forum anyway.
As for Norway......o_O....That has surprised the hell out of me too.
