Hello Everyone, I'm a newbie member, but not new to classics...

My name is 'Baker' I live in Brighton, with my cat and newly acquired BMW Z3 Roadster.

Previous sins... I mean ownership of classic vehicles:

Volvo (Amazon) 122s
Mercedes 123
Range Rover Classic
Honda C50M Moped (1972, Still owned)

And last but not least the proud owner of a 2000, BMW Z3, Manual. 1.9L Cabriolet Roadster.

I'm originally from The North O'England....(Birmingham) I moved to the 'Happy, Loving, Friendly, Sensitive, Caring, Cohesive, Inclusive South' ... (Not) in early 2004 ish :) just kidding not everyone.

Can any 'Commando' Nerdy Warrior Mechanic(s) please advise, I am a disabled person, and really enjoy my new (for me) car, however, one drawback, is I wish it had an electric roof. I needed a car and fell for the one I have which has a great-looking blue roof, to compliment the blue body colour, but it's a manual roof. Not impossible for me to operate, just it would make a world of difference if I could with a press of a button, raise the roof, lowering the roof is not an issue.

if any brave individual or crew, is willing to help me retrofit an electric roof...., my idea is we could broadcast it on YouTube, with or without you in the footage.... that's if you're shy, or like me too old, bold and fat... Is retrofitting an electric roof a straight job...? or many hours & millions of galactic federation state credits... (i mean money).

Also, more of a project if any takers, I don't have the garage or the energy, but can assist in advise, but not financially either, as I'm an ex-College lecturer (many moons ago) of Information Technology, last job was a key worker security guard at the start of the pandemic. The idea is we do a major heart, lung, and brain transplant of a Z3 or equivalent into an electric hybrid. Say for example a Z3 with a blown engine/gearbox. (I bit like me... a rusty old banger).

The Heart Transplant -Remove petrol engine - replace with electric motor/batteries (ie. Truck batteries).
The Lung Transplant - hybrid assists small tiny electric generator.
Brain Transplant - Remove the computing system and replace it with an 'Open source brain' using tech ie. NASA Open MCT https://nasa.github.io/openmct/
The brain transplant would mean removing all the neurological systems of the car, ie. electric window modules, power seat control etc, and replacing with ie. Opensource in car 'Carputer' computing environment, with all telemetry data being crunched (bench pressed) by the open-source NASA Open MCT computing environment. I've never personally done it myself but could be a worthy 'tube' series for any other brave warriors. The above software could have a 'tesla' style monitor, which may pop out of the dashboard when in use..

Owing to health, I'm thinking of starting my own tube channel, and this could be a start of a project to record and broadcast. (again bear in mind), I don't have a garage etc, as I live in a run-down council apartment in Brighton, that's actually killed me (bathroom mould-caused terminal lung disease).

btw, it doesn't have to be a Z3  ie. You could be building an electric motorhome, (convert van) tube channel featuring ie. 'Tina Big B**Bs' as your sidekick/clickbait.

Last but not least, does anyone know where I can get a decent set of mudflaps for my Z3...? Without costing the earth...?

Remember, the force is with you always...

Long Live The King (The Merry Monarch 2.0) Charles the III, and Long Live the Republic.

Peace.

'Baker'

Hi Baker, welcome from me up north near Lincoln. Our resident Z3 breaker Andy, @spurs fan in a coupe sometimes has power hood kits available for retro fitting. He may have one now so send him a PM. Sorry to read about your health problems.
There are currently 3 projects on here detailing Electric conversion on a Z3.

Tony.
