This is what I'm talking about. I had Geophys's gorgeous red 2.2 Sport and it's the Z3 I use when I'm in Swansea now. That car is immaculate with just the odd spot of rust underneath. But when I bought it last Aug it had a short MOT so I got in at little notice with my usual place.
These were the advisories in 2019 with Colin.
- Nearside Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
- Offside Front Brake pad(s) wearing thin (1.1.13 (a) (ii))
In 2020 with me, 1000 miles later and having spent the previous 12 months in a garage, this:
- Nearside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
- Offside Rear Direction indicator slightly discoloured (4.4.3 (a))
- Oil leak, but not excessive (8.4.1 (a) (i))
- Nearside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))
- Offside Front Suspension arm corroded but not seriously weakened (5.3.3 (b) (i))
- Nearside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
- Offside Rear Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
- Nearside Front Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
- Offside Front Brake hose has slight corrosion to ferrule (1.1.12 (f) (i))
- Offside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
- Nearside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
- Offside Rear Coil spring corroded (5.3.1 (b) (i))
There is zero probability that any of these items had changed year on year. It's just different testing standards. Now I have all that cr*p on the MOT history of an immaculate car with a nearly immaculate prior MOT record.
The trouble is apart from an over zealous MOT tester I have a long history with the garage and like to keep friendly with them. They service other family cars (can't do it all myself). As I say, I'll being going elsewhere with some of the cars now that are harmed more from this. Foxy (car above) and Willy (new loom & rear-end rebuild).
