P0340 code?

Hi got z3 1.9 1997 4 cylinder got misfire as tick over and when driving all time cold or warm got P0340 code says camshaft sensor but would this cause misfire don't want spend loads on car trying sort misfire, the car been stood 2 years goin have oil changed filters and plugs new maf sensor and idle control valve, so think camshaft sensor needs changing as well?? Cheers

It certainly worked on my car, I've not had the code back since the sensor was changed and idle much better.

Most certainly put a new camshaft sensor in, the code is telling you its gone duff, buy oem brands such as Bosch or Seimens do not but cheap ebay sensors. I would hold off replacing the Maf till you see if the new camshaft sensor sorts the problem. If you do buy replacement Maf or sensors always go oem brands the cheap ebay items dont last long or work correctly.
Take the idle control valve off and spray carb cleaner in it to clean the gum out of it, once clean if you shake it you should hear the internal flap rattle as it moves which proves its free to operate.

I have P0340 (Z3 2.0) with no problems starting and it runs smoothly. Other code P indicated historic misfire on one cylinder but this didn’t return when cleared. Replaced the camshaft sensor today and code 340 is still there. When sensor is connected to wiring circuit but not installed, a metal object by the sensor initiates fuel delivery, so the sensor is working. Tried both Vemo and Stark as well as the original, now 23 years old.

Bit stumped as the sensor (all 3) seem to work, and engine runs ok, but can’t identify the cause of P0340. Only other code on generic OBD reader is a faulty lambda sensor, P0150.

Any suggestions?

Neighbour found post that sho s there an exhaust sensor, now ordered so hopefully this will fix things.
