Over-cooling

Guys

On the return journey from collecting our new Z3 (1.9 M44) everything went fine, but the temp gauge only just climbed out of the blue sector. Heater was warm but not hot. Slight backfire at times (Overfuelling?) I'm thinking either temp sender, thermostat or stuck fan clutch-am I along the right lines?

If the fan clutch was stuck in the fan would drive at engine speed and would be hellish noisy John. I would opt for thermostat as a start point. You can buy a digital infra red thermometer to check the cooling system for temperature. Also useful if you have sticking brake callipers plus loads of other jobs.

Stuck or no thermostat? That would be my first guess.

+1 for thermostat. That and a water pump are always sensible anyway if you don’t have proof of a recent change.
