I live in Bristol and all this week we have had road closures, road blocks and protests from those Eco Warriors Extinction Rebellion. Although I agree with doing our bit to save the planet, I can't help but find these people a tiny bit hypocritical.
For instance they seem to have a painted boat at each of the 5 cities where their protests have taken place and how did they get these boats to the protests?
Towed by an old diesel Freelander. I kid you not. It does seem to be a case of do as I say and not do as I do.

Yep. I bet after a hard day's protesting many of them enjoy a glass of wine to wind down and kid themselves that they've changed the world. Just remind me again how all the wine we import from Chile, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand gets here. Oh yes, by container ship. The ones with massive diesel engines the majority of which have no form of emission control whatsoever....

They only ever want to crash our economy (I see one of them saying we need a recession to assist us [ Rupert Read on the Today programme 17th July]) they never object to China and India opening more coal fired power stations.
Most of these environmentalists seem to spend a lot of time FLYING around the world , it seems they consider that save the atmosphere.

We normal folk would get fined for parking on a besy street , how much have they been fined for blocking major roads for days.

They do like to go on social media telling everybody else that they are the only ones fighting to save the planet.
Except that device that they have just accessed the internet with, was probably built in a factory in China (one of the most polluting countries in the world) and shipped to the UK. Then that device needs to be charged up using electricity, again probably from a dirty gas fired power station. I reckon little old me just doing my recycling does more to save the planet than them causing traffic chaos.

Now Recycling ?????--- I was recently told I should not have put the metal rods from our old clothes line in the recycling bin, it had to go in the bin for non recycling material ---- because the council system would not accept metal rods. So the scrap dealer will buy it , but our council send it to landfill. The operatives considered it ridiculous but it came from the "boss"

I have to say that on the surface my local council is pretty good at recycling. Grey bin for recyclables (including metal), purple top bin for non-recyclables and a green bin for compostables. Sounds great, but no-one really knows where the waste ends up once it's gone in the dustcart.....

IMO it really doesn't matter, its way beyond plastic and pollution, as a planet we are over populated and this will be our down fall, modern man has been around for about 60k years and for the majority of that time is has worked, however since the industrial revolution we have been in a downward spiral and there is no going back, we are a virus on our planet and the sooner we are gone the better for the Earth that we love so much
