If you find a local Longlife garage near you they will make you a superb one for half the price of the others and they are fab..... Had one made for my first Z and was well pleased ..you can choose the decibels as well:thumbsup:

There is a guy on M3Cutters site - Paulwelder - who has been doing some wonderful stuff on E46 & E92 M3 exhausts. There some good feedback reports + video clips on his pages. Link below.

Might be worth contacting him to see what he can do and see what cost implication is. His welding work looks pretty good on the pictures.
He's already carried one Northern Tour over the border in Scotland where he worked on about 5 or 6 cars of various types . He's pulling together another tour up North when he gets his van sorted.
I've already passed the same info on to one of the Z3 M Coupe owners I was speaking to at the Silverstone Classic today who wants something a little more throaty but cannot justify the cost of a new manufactured exhaust.
Worth a try.

I've heard an S50 engined Z3M with baffles removed from the rear boxes (cut open and gutted).
Sounds simply awesome, very 'angry'.
I have a Supersprint on my 2.8 and I could hear that above mine when he was BEHIND me.

Gets me thinking that maybe you should look at the exhaust bypass valves, gives you best if both worlds (bypasses the back boxes completely at the push of a button then back to standard when you like).
There's a big thread on them hear somewhere, will dig it up.

Here it is:
