One of your towers Redline?

Why would you. There's living life to the full but surely that's looking for death

My goodness :p
Made me feel ill just watching it ;)
So scary ....... ;)
Feel dizzy now :)

When you are young you think you are invincible.
When I was 17/18 years of age I was building hanging scaffolding at heights between 85 and 110 meters.
When I think about it now, I get sweaty palms and my bottom does strange things.....

As you do :woot: :nailbiting: :arghh:

Fair play to these extreme type people but for me you'd need to be the whole picnic short of a picnic to do that!

No - Continental or american I'd guess. Ours are all painted grey.

We do get climbers and the occasional base-jumper but the big towers have extensive monitoring and latchways to prevent all but the most determined.
Most of the climbers sadly do it for the quick way down - we get jumpers every couple of months. Its not a pretty business at times. Had one locally a few months ago - they didn't succeed which made it worse for them.
He looks like he doesn't appreciate the wind at that height is gusty and frequently high.

A bit like a certain person sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon eh @;)

One of my jobs is inspections of wind turbines, but we go up the inside, and they are nowhere near as high as that tower. I've been up a lighting tower at St Mawgan Airport in Newquay a few years ago, but even that was only around 60mtrs or 200ft.

You wouldn't think a huge steel tube that is a wind turbine body would sway in the wind but it does and the first time you experience it stays with you.

You can't fall while you're climbing these days, that is you can't fall to the floor as long as you have your ladder runner properly connected.

I'm coming to the end of my climbing days now though, but that's down to me needing a knee replacement.

Seen a post on YouTube of two people (one male and one female) climbing one of our towers. Not going to post the link. We're under strict orders about what we can and cannot post online. This is on the cannot list.

They climbed a 230m mast. They thought using a climbing caribina on the fall arrest would be sufficient to save them if they fell (except the last bit). It would have killed them outright within 10m instead.
The worst bit is you see them free climbing on the outside of the TV antenna at the very top.
That particular antenna is radiating 1,000,000W of rf. Each of the panels radiates 25kW. Forty times that in a microwave. They were less than a foot away. While they have walked away from this they will have voluntarily exited the gene pool.

if they had dropped any of the stuff they were carrying (GoPro, phone, can of coke, selfie stick), it could have killed anybody on the ground up to 200m away.
Am sure several investigations are under way, but, it's virtually impossible to stop those really intent on getting on the masts. We probably won't catch them - but, the ground will.

Jesus, what's happened to just going down the pub? People are nuts......

Climbing telephone poles was bad enough just glad I never got into the radio side of things.

Maybe they have no mates to share a drink and conversation with, don't know how to solve the problems of the world and how to fix our football teams. Only the ultimate buzz irrespective of the danger to themselves and others will do.
If they don't get caught, they will most certainly die from terminal stupidity - Either from the unarguable force of gravity or from internal rf burns. Their choice. It isn't fair to our guys who have to go pick up the pieces.

Its a craze that is so stupid. Bit like the clowns thing.. I hope that they can stop this.. if not just increase the microwaves to a cook on the spot mode..

Much the same as people who throw themselves under trains. Someone has to go and pick all the bits up by hand.

When we were kids, in the mid 60's, they were currently building pylons radiating out from Cottam, West Burton and High Marnham power stations along the Trent valley. Before they were finished and had cables hung on them they didn't bother to put barbed wire round then a "few" feet off the ground to stop people climbing them. So we did!

All but impossible to increase the power sadly. Individual transmitters each now use much less power since digital switchover and they are maxed out for efficiency. There are more of them though at the big sites - 8 (9 here but one isn't switched on yet) instead of the 5 analogue tx's.
Some people think they can just do what they want to. Should have a clip round the ear when they were kids when they did stupid things IMHO. Bet their parents also think there's nothing wrong with these crazes - even when they have to identify the bodies it will be everybody else's fault but theirs.
