See if you can insist it's done at a BMW body shop and it will be just like the day it rolled off the line minus any stone chips

Looks like the bumper will need doing as well so if there are any blemishes on the front it might be a way of getting it back to pristine condition.

Several years back i had some work on a 3 series
work was by Bmw engineers
Bmw tend to farm out work these days
its best to go to high end body shop
Where they do porsche's and ferrari's

Ahh, I've only had experience of Sytner who do everything in house and are excellent. They did all the boot welds and have done other stuff in the past with various vehicles which has always been spot on.

I didn't realise they were farming stuff out now as they used to advertise the fact that if you had a bump then their work was as good as the factory, which in my experience was true. It's been a long time since i had anything done

Have to agree with Boysie on this one.

BMW.... "oh sir, looks like a new bonnet is required and a new bumper" = mega bucks.

Specialist Car Bodyshop.... "we can repair that, no problem" even though the bonnet has a 'double skin' (and no sign of damage on the inside of the bonnet, even though its a deep dent)

"And what would the cost be of that then, I ask?" answer I got was a lot cheaper than BMW!!!!

I wasn't sure if it was an insurance job as they tend to find the cheapest repairers possible so you could insist where it was done. I had a company car (BMW) which got broken into and they made a mess of the door in the process. The insurance company sent it to a ford dealer to get the work done (car 4 months old) and it came back in a mess. Over spray on pretty much everything and generally a really bad job. they had another go at it and made it wore so ended up going back to BMW where it came back as new.


If it's coming out of your pocket, or your mates, then BMW isn't the place to go for sure.

James, the bodyshop I mentioned work on classic cars most of the time, so you get to speak to someone who knows their trade.
Dealer, speak to somebody behind a desk.

I donked my van a couple of years ago,
the insurers said it was a write off :ymsick:
The repairers said that nowadays most cars over 5 years get written off
as they have changed the value to percentage of cost of the damage
I decided to get it repaired,and not write it off, there are still
good repairers out there , who have skills and dont just replace panels.
The quality of the repair was great albeit a van

Sorry, I should have updated earlier.

Have to agree with Jamezee (not the same bodyshop, obviously)..

The bodyshop have done a fantastic, repeat, fantastic job.

I had a small patch of paint work bubbling on my drivers door by the window, forgot to mention it to them....fixed.

My front number plate had a dent in it from a tow bar....fixed, new plate.

The car they lent me for the week, yes it took a week, was a Mercedes-Benz C 200 Sport Coupe Compressor, went like a bat out of hell and used less juice than the Z....!

I will be recommending this company on the Dutch Z forum and pics will follow tomorrow.

M44 massive......pha...us M43 massive are the originals....and you need 8 more valves to carry the big chunk of metal around on the top.. )
