Having a love for photography, slide film and what I call recent memory history (post WW2) I sometimes buy job lots of slides from ebay to see if there are any interesting old cars, railways etc in there.

I'm just going through a batch now and thought it might be of interest to others to post a few up. Identify the cars, maybe identify the location and have a few reminiscences.

The slides I go for tend to be 60s/70s/80s and require a bit of fiddling to look good. Some results will be better than others.

Here's the first one.

Henley-in-Arden?

Toyota Corolla

Is that a Marina estate or a ford escort estate being overtaken by the Jag too.

This is my street. Looks a damn sight better in the day than it does now. From best we can make out we think the horse and cart is outside our house. A bit older mode of transport than your Toyota. We believe it to be taken circ of 1912.

Looks too early for an Ital Dave. The shape is early 70’s

That Jag is an 80's car. I sold a few of those when I had the garage. They did that shape upto 1987.

I don't know where it is the btw. Slides are rarely marked up. I thought the distant car was a Cortina or Escort estate. It was the early Corolla that caught my eye.

I would say it’s an early Escort.

It's a slow job going through slides. I'm lucky if I get 1 or 2 interesting ones every 100. I'm also learning new hardware and software I've just upgraded to.

So here's one of my own slides of my own cars. It's a 1300 sport I paid £395 for in 1989 I think it was. It would probably be £6-8k worth these days! And yes, the stripes are wrong. I bought it off a small garage who had just resprayed it and welded it up.

First series Toyota Celica, Ford Escort estate, Series 3 Jaguar XJ

That was my second ever car and the first one I ever worked on when I was 19. Which means the year was 1987 not 1989.

I did loads of stuff on that car including the obligatory de-coke. I had a go at welding, I even did an evening class but it's the one thing that's always had me beat. Perhaps 33 years later I'd be better and I'd like to give it a go sometime but no real need on Z3s (generally). I have a superb welder/fabricator when I do need something.

Well nothing much exciting at all about that lot. It will go back onto ebay now to recover some cash and hopefully someone else will find something of interest to them. But I quite like this one. Very 80s/early 90s. A nice slice of what I think of when I remember cars from that time.
