The car will be for sale at Munich Legends for £7995 as seen. I would like it to go to somebody who will drive and enjoy it as I have done.

The car has sold. It went very quickly within hours of being advertised. I received £5000 for it. I have to admit the whole process was extremely upsetting. I would have liked an enthusiast to have purchased the car. People have asked me why I did not sell it privately. Apart from the distress of seeing the car go somebody close to us tried to sell his Audi. Two guys turned up after the advert was placed, broke his leg and stole the car. I was also asked why such a low price. Well the hype surrounding selling a car is unbelievable as are the expectations of the sellers. Advertised prices in my humble opinion are often totally unrealistic. The words future classic, investment opportunity, collectors car etc, often are used. I initially let a professional try and sell it for a high price. After six months it had not sold. They did not want to reduce the price and were very happy that I moved it to another garage. I must admit that garage also did not leave me with a positive feeling but this time I just did not wish to play games. I tried very hard to arrange for an enthusiast to own the car but in the end I just wanted to move on and not get into a protracted unpleasant fight.
In a recent letter in Autocar entitled "money can buy you love" the author asks when you go on holiday, how much money do you get back on that holiday when you get home. Buy a new tele it will be worthless in a few months. His advice buy the car you have wanted drive it and enjoy. I had almost 20 years of fun with my car. Yes it cost money, averaging just over £3000/year which covered depreciation, repairs, servicing, tax, insurance and petrol. It was worth every penny for the pure enjoyment it gave me. I bought it to drive, I drove it and really enjoyed the whole experience. I never ever considered it an investment opportunity. It appears that true enthusiasts are being squeezed out by the speculators. I hope there is a major market correction soon and that a true enthusiast buys my old car and enjoys.

I'm sure if you had advertised it on here for £5k an enthusiast would of snapped you hand off, I certainly would have.

Problem is I did not want to get involved with the sale for many reasons. I hoped that going via an agent people would get the chance to go for it. One on this site really tried. I tried with the agent to sell it to an enthusiast and I was told in no uncertain terms that I had no voice in who could buy it. I must admit that came as a surprise. I am not prepared to go into details but it was a very distressful and abusive telephone conversation. I could have taken legal action but I did not want to go down that route again for many reasons. With hind site I believe that an auction would have been the best route as long as I could have given details on this site about the sale. Again at my age I did not know how to go about doing that. I naively believed that the agent would act on my behalf. How wrong I was. It is all about money. From my experience I wish there was an effective system whereby enthusiasts can easily sell to enthusiasts but I am afraid in our current environment it is all about personal interests and greed. Many times in my life I have had people tell me what I should have done and often when I have followed that advice there has been little response. I am not saying that this time that would have been the case but personal experience does influence one's behaviour.

I have just received some fantastic news. Sometimes fate can intervene in a strange way. My old car has just been bought by a member of this forum. I don't know the full story but a few weeks ago I dialled Munich Legends by mistake and was told the sale to an unknown buyer had fallen through. I immediately telephoned the member and he acted very quickly and today was successful. I am absolutely delighted that the old car has passed to a true enthusiast. I hope you will all share my pure joy when you find out who it is.

I found this forum an effective means of selling to an enthusiast. Jimmy Weston called me regarding selling his so a quick simple sale ensued and I bought his straight away.

Ladies and gentlemen...

I am happy to report that I am the new owner of Mr Tillys Z3M !!!

What a journey (as you can see on this thread) but after this really unexpected lucky strike ... it's coming home!! well it's home already!!

I am over the moon with the car, its really a true gem - very straight and honest and all the important bits are as they should be.

Credit to Tilly I haven't seen anything like this service history every single receipt is there, realOem diagrams and all, a binder as thick as a bible.. it will take effort to be a custodian as thorough as Roger was but that's my goal.

I am planning to drive the car around while the weather is still OK-ish and then mothball it for the winter so it does not see any rain or snow.

The car does not need anything immediate but I will give it a good once over and fix any small things I find and try to keep it in as good nick as its been kept so far and do anything that needs doing no matter how small.

Massive massive thanks to @Tilly and @Mnbrennan for making this dream come true and the Herts zed folks and forum guys for their support.

Looking forward to the many good memories that I am sure this car is going to provide.

I will start a progress thread or introduce the car when I have time to take some good pics and put it on

Happy Zedding guys !

The end of the story, for me at least. Today I was at the Silverstone Classic to finally meet Mario and see the car. Wow what a great day. Although none of us thought it would ever happen it goes to show that fate sometimes intervenes. I am over the moon, the car that I did not want to sell has gone to a true enthusiast who is more than capable in writing the next chapter for one of the oldest M Roadsters still running in the World. We took some pics, had some wine and exchanged many stories. I also learnt quite a bit about the garage that sold Mario the car. It supported my experience in that it was not at all favourable.

I also met a number of other members who again reinforced my experience of this group. True enthusiasts and a great lot of people.

Finally one big thanks to BMBabe who I met for the first time. You did one hell of a good job in organising the Z meetup. Well done

I have attached two picture of the three people closely attached to the successful handover of Blackie. For information I am the old git wearing the shorts.

Thanks Roger for making the effort to come and see us, we've had a lovely weekend and for me having you coming to see us and sharing the history of the car, the pictures etc and listening to the stories of how much you enjoyed the Zed was the cherry on top.

I hope we see you for many years to come, the Porsche club is just across the road and you are more than welcome to come and take Blackie for a spin anytime.

I owe you and the forum a progress thread with all the things I have done to the car since I got it, have photos of everything but it's finding the time to write a proper post, as promised I am keeping the car in the best condition that money and time allows, its a true gem that always puts a smile on my face when I drive it and that I am planning to keep forever if I can.

I am going to hijack the thread now to put some pics that I took of Blackie on the event club area.
