Oil Change Z3 1.9 M44 engine

My Zed is due its yearly oil change, usually I take it to the garage, but thought I would do it myself, although I haven't looked under the car yet, one question I have is difficult to remove the plastic undertray to get to the sump plug, I do have access to ramps to help get under the front and I will be completing the work on my drive. Also can the oil filter cap be removed using the material strap which tightens as you turn it, or do you need the specialist part.

on my m44 you don't need to remove the plastic tray as there is a small hatch in the tray that just has a couple of screws holding it in place.
 
Oil change no bother, make sure you get the car well warmed up first though, a good 15 mins of "testing" should get the oil warmed well. And don't lose the copper O ring off the sump plug :facepalm:
 
hope you haven't got a nice new block drive, yes some people have done it, my neighbour did, spent 3 grand on his drive then decided it would be a great idea to buy a jeep restoration job o_O=)) infact there isn't a smiley I could use in this instance:)
 
Thanks littlefella, I will have a look for the inspection hatch, and yes I do have a block drive LOL, hopefully I can but a few of my wife's clothes down to protect the blocking:)

Any one know if you need the special tool to remove the top of the oil filter,

Also yesterday was a good day at my Zed passed its MOT with no advisories, not bad for an 18 yr old vehicle.

Spooky, mine passed its MOT yesterday as well with no advisories. Also did a oil and coolant change last Saturday, did it on the drive, bit of a pain but doable. I used a strap on the filter housing, worked fine.
 
yep you will need the filter tool, i did mine a couple of months ago, i placed the bag containing the rubber o ring under a spanner to stop it blowing away, the wind still took the poly bag containing the o ring, then 30 seconds later returned the bag minus the o ring:mad:

Thanks for the offer littlefella, checking the link that jonco put on its only £6.99 so its a worthwhile investment to buy one. Time and weather depending I will have a go over the weekend.

Double check sizing but you will probably need a 3/8" square drive, so depending on your socket set you may need an adaptor as well. The filter is only supposed to be low torque tighten but if a garage has done job previously it is probably on hard!
