I recently purchased a cup holder for my Z3 directly from BMW.

I'm quite happy with it especially considering what I paid and how much I've seen them sell for on ebay second hand.

Unfortunately the installation instructions are less than adequate being totally non existent.

I originally thought it would clip into place however it came with some screws and can't work where these would go. Does it require drilling the centre console and putting a speed clip through it?

I know several people on her have installed this onto their vehicles so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If I remember right Faheem it hooks in at one end and there's a screw at the other. That wasn't very satisfactory to me so I used the middle screw hole as well firstly into the plastic. Then removed the whole thing and made a slotted hole to place a speed clip onto the plastic before refitting all screws.

Tony, what did you cover the slotted holes with after you removed the cup holder?

Just a piece of carpet mate. There's loads of things you can use.

Cheers Tony. Just not very good with the drill. I'll give it a go tomorrow hopefully without destroying my centre console.

T o make a slot, just drill about 4, 3mm holes right next to each other in a straight line and "join" them up by pushing the drill bit sideways to make the slot. It's really easy just don't rush it mate. Another tip is push the drill bit as far into the drill chuck so it is as short as possible.

My armrest/cup holder didn't require additional holes, used the two already there with (I think) slightly longer screws.

There's a small typo in the part number above. It should be

51.16.8.413.622 not 51.16.0.413.622

Glad this is here - just bought one myself from Williams Rochdale for a bargain £45.03! I say bargain, the arm rest is going to add to that ;)
