Can anyone help I've got z3 2.8 1998 I'm trying to read the obd2 port but getting nothing back I've checked fuses and their is power their I've tried 3 different readers they power up but no info, I've tried these readers on my other z3 1.9 1998 and they work, any advice would be good thanks.

I will stand corrected, but you need an adapter and all Z3's you use the one under the bonnet

Yeah thanks but sorry I think I've wrote it wrong I've already got the adapter and plugged it in to the port but getting no info back

Try cleaning the pins. My indie had this problem when i had the Z3. Told me it was a common issue

Just do a light scrape with a small terminal driver as the contacts tend to coat up if not used very often

Yeah all 3 scanners work on the z3 1.9
Would point to a connection issue on the 2.8 then Trev. Maybe try cleaning the pins as Bill suggests.

I will try that tomorrow thanks I'm starting to think it's the plug itself as you say :)

Yeah I will try the screwdriver affect I didn't think that as I was getting a signal from the scanner I just assumed it wasnt the ports fault thanks it's a good starting point :)

When someone tried to read mine they had to manually tell it what car it was plugged into. No idea how to use them so I don' know if that makes sense to anyone ha :bag:

Ok cleaned the contacts and pulled back the rubber seal and checked the wiring still not working

I can read all the engine faults on mine from the plug inside the car but can't read any of the ABS codes from the round plug under the bonnet.

Yeah but not all z3 have the plug on the inside or have I missed it while under the dash.
