Hey @t-tony, I got a code for a bad O 2 sensor first bank, on my 1.9. I'm going to look in the manual to see how to replace it. However, since it made the distinction of the 'first bank', I don't want to take the wrong one out. Actually, I don't even know if there are more that one until I look in the book. Thought I'd run it past you first. Frankie on a HOT, HOT DAY!!!!!!!!!!
 
Usually bank 1 refers to an O2 sensor before the cat and bank 2 to the one after the cat.

When Robert T plugged mine in last year it came up with lambda sensor 2 faulty which is odd as it only has 1!

Thanks, Tony. I'' get at it as soon as i change the thermostat on my wife's Isuzu Rodeo. I'll try and get the 2 parts at the same time and use a store coupon on parts that I have.. Thanks again..........Frankie
 
@FRANKIE - if you look on real.oem it shows 2 sensors before and after cat. The European market 1.9's only have one, pre cat, but I think US have 2 because of different emission rules. The electrical side is a straight plug-in but the screw in to the exhaust can be a bugger to get out.

Absolutely Colin, if, when you start to unscrew them they are " free" to turn they will come out easily , however if they turn about half a turn and go "tight" again it isn't going to come out because the thread will have " picked up".

ps. 22m or 7/8 AF spanner. I tend to use a wide jawed adjustable spanner to remove these, or at least, to loosen them.

I have the special O 2 socket made for these plugs. Won't mean much if it doesn't want to come out. I think I'll drive it up on ramps first, find it, spray it down with WD-40, and then work on my wife's car's thermostat while its soaking in. Then I'll give it a shot. If you hear someone screaming from a long distance away, you'll know if it came out easy or not. Frankie
 
I bought a special lambda sensor socket too Frankie and to be honest it was a waste of money because the cut out for the cable weakens it so much if the sensor is really tight, and they usually are, it just spreads , slips and rounds the corners of the hexagon . Back to the old adjustable!
