The nextbase should turn on and begin recording as soon as it gets power. Don't know how the Z3 does this but as soon as I start the engine in my Z4 the cigarette lighter socket goes live and the camera turns on. It then takes about 60secs to locate the GPs satellites and your good to go. You don't say what size of sd card you have in the cam but the footage you posted looks very similar to the results I get when I don't have an sd card inserted. I have the 412GW and they say that it takes up to 32Gb sd card but I have a 128Gb card in mine and it works perfectly. If you do have an sd card inserted make sure you format it through the camera as it doesn't like sd cards formatted through a mobile phone or a pc? They are a good camera so I'm sure we can get it working for you.

Getting to the menu and then navigating around it can be fiddly, even infuriating.

Rather than try and play and set it up in the car, plug it into a USB on your pc or phone charger. You can more easily get through the menus and also check immediately what the camera has done when you've changed something and tested it.

The default should be to start recording after power is applied.
Also, as just mentioned - format the card in the camera. I've found SD cards also wear out with constant use in dash cams . Best to start with a new one, and when odd things start to happen after months of use, be prepared to get a new one.

As soon as power is applied blue screen mass storage apears.

32 Gb Brand new Kingsdom cards are being used.

Getting off the Cam and onto the PC was a doddle though :)

I'll have another play at the weekend.

Yup. As above, turn on ignition, comes on and that's it though as said, going through the menu can be a tad fiddly whilst in situ. Also recommends to put in/ take out SD card whilst it's not under power.

I'd forgotten that most pc's load drivers automatically- I thought though you got an option to either use it as mass storage or as a camera. Just use a phone charger to get power instead.

Not sure now if these cameras are a good or bad idea? On the news tonight it said that all police forces after Oct. are going to accept people sending in their vids of other drivers, and they could then prosecute from any evidence provided! So I suppose if a driver was to pass that car and it had his speed recorded on it, and he was at the legal limit when another driver overtook, could this result in a fine in the post I wonder??
I have a next base too and that just comes on once the power is on! Might be a faulty camera?

To down load video I remove the card and put it into a USB reader like this one, Just drag the files into "my videos" on the PC.

First time of use the PC runs the driver and after that just insert the card and plug into PC USB port. Cheap as chips and works well. We left a couple at the villa in Florida to use when we're there.

The make of the sd card is not really important. Try to always use a Class10 sd card and as stated before make sure you format the card through the camera menu and not through your pc when the cams attached. I have two separate connections on my 412GW. One is on the camera mount which stays permanently attached to the windscreen and provides power only to the cam when it is connected via the magnetic clip and one on the camera which is a USB connection which provides mass storage options or connect as a camera options.

If you go to the Nextbase site: https://www.nextbase.co.uk/help-and-support/in-car-cameras-series/ you can download an app to replay your video clips. It displays the video with all the usual speed and time etc but it also displays your exact position on Google maps as well as displaying how hard your are braking/accelerating and the left/right g force exerted on the car. You can also download the latest firmware upgrade for the cam. You will also find information on supported sd cards and links to amazon to buy them.

Keep us informed of the progress and have fun.

I also have the Nextbase 402G and had the identical problem :(

Turned out to be the in built battery not holding its charge.

Is yours brand new?

If within warranty; Nextbase will repair FOC

Mine was out of warranty so Nextbase offered to either to send a brand new battery free of charge + instructions on how to refit; or return for repair.

I decided against the self repair, as it involved de-soldering/soldering the battery from the delicate PCB.

Nextbase refitted a new battery for a charge of £31.20 (6 months ago)

All done within a week, with no hassle from Nextbase

Good Luck with the repair.
