Code readers do show passed and present faults which can be re set. I have one and remember putting it on a fellow Zed owners low mileage Z4. Very well serviced and ran like a dream code reader showed a full catalogue of faults. Secret is to ignore all that comes up at first re set all faults then start again.

A mate recently bought a Z4 and we read the codes on it and there a good number of historic codes in the ECU. We cleared them and after a run none came back. That is a starting point to work from.
