Hi, Wonder if anyone can help me. My roof motor on my Z4 E85 is playing up. Goes back no problem but going back up its a 50/50 or i have to pull it up to help. Does anyone know a garage/Person in Scotland or close to Edinburgh that would fix and re-locate like most of you have suggested?. I have seen a great web site on Facebook called '<REMOVED>' but a fair drive. Also seen a post for someone in Durham but nothing more.

Thanks for any help or advice. Phil

Welcome on board Phil,

The guy you've referred to has been banned from trading on here, so we can't help you in relation to him. I've also moved your post to the introduction section, as I should have deleted the thread you found when I removed him from the site.

Have you managed any diagnosis on your problem yet?

Regards, Gary

Thanks Gary. No not solved the issue yet. I would rather take it to someone as I will make the issue worse I am sure knowing my skills!!!. Hopefully someone in Scotland does this without going to BMW or someone that wants to take the roof off.
!!. Didn't realise it was such a common issue with the motor. Just seems strange it works fine to go down but not back up. Great web site to get others input.

The roof doesn't need to come off the car, it's possible to get the motor in to the boot area with a bit of messing around. Once there you can evaluate it, or replace it if needs be. You may find that the motor is serviceable once it's removed and dried out.

A lot of Z4 owners now have the motor moved in to the boot (exactly how it's done on the Z3) The main issue is that the motor gets flooded if the roof drains block, as it sits in a plastic well. Having it in the boot stops the issue.

There are other sensors though which could be playing up, like the micro switch on the parcel shelf for example.
