A couple of photos. Have it a good clean and polish yesterday. Find out it needs a bit of TLC for rust, the aerial grommet replacing (reception is really bad - is that common?), the high level brake light gasket replacing and the seat bushes plus the electric seat motor (it blows a fuse as soon as the switch is operated). Other than that, glad I bought it.

I had to replace the antenna grommet as it had started to let water into the frame of the car. I had noticed condensation on the inside of the boot lid and thought I needed the upper break light seal replaced. I'm still not sure about that seal as, soon after replacing the grommet, I started using a cover for the car to protect it from the rain. As a result, I still don't know if the seal is bad. I'll have to wait until I get caught out in the rain with the car. Frankie

Grommet for aerial is around £6 from main dealers or around £12 off ebay, sometimes dealers are cheaper!! I can help you with a used seat motor if you need one, check wiring first to make sure it's not been trapped in seat runners. Nice to see a different colour to the usual silver and blues!

Regards, Adrian

Nice zed in a stand out colour like mine
Looks like an individual model if it is on the nearside inner wing opposite side from chassis plate a bit like this

Thanks for the info on the grommet being cheaper at BMW Adrian, I was just about to spend £13 on eBay!

Hi Adrian, I'm going to take the seat out this week and see if I can spot the issue - as it's blowing the fuse it's either a shorted wire or the motor has gone. The offer of the motor is much appreciated and I'll let you know this week hopefully - I'm working away Thu - Sun so if not done by Thu it will be next week. I'm changing the seat bushes at the same time.
And thanks for commenting on the colour - apparently there are 84 in the UK and I've been told only 27 2.8s.

Hi Steveo, I was going to buy one the same as yours that was on eBay last week but my son, who owned this one needed the money (and wants it back when he's sorted financially!). It is an Individual as yours and has all the right bits including aircon, electric roof (Replaced last year), roll bars and the mesh wind break - just want to fit cruise control. Almost ordered a Dakar Yellow M3 when I was stationed in Germany as it was cheap (until you started adding all the options lol!).

Forgot to mention, seat motors tend to stick due to not being used much, especially the passenger side, if there is no motor sound at all when operating the switch try gently tapping the motor with a hammer while operating the switch, I've got 3 working to date that way, you never know your luck.
Okay, I dismantled the seats to change the bushes and didn't find the number of turns thinking it I made them even ask the way back they without work ok - they didn't doh! The motor attempts to move the seat but seems to twist - are the threaded guides handed by any chance and I've one on the wrong way? How do the motors know when they've reached the end of their movement?

The spinals need to been even, remove the carrier and put back on equally. you should have counted the revolutions when you took them off. I made this mistake too LOL repeat and replace and all will be good.

I've counted 8 turns and about to try them but if not, I'll put them both in the middle and try again! Thanks
