A 1.9 M44 (twin cam) is a great choice. Colour obviously your preference (but agree green is good). Apart from normal condition checks (should be little if any rust on a well cared for example), I would seek a car with aircon, heated and leather seats. Good luck with the search.

Thanks ianmc, I am slightly confused (heck, nothing new there!) as to which engine is in the early Z3's - is it an M40 or an M44?
Cheers, Richard.

Initially (1995) the Z3 could have the 1.8 M43B18 engine (114 bhp) or 1.9 M44B19 (140bhp) depending on market. The M43B18 was discontinued in 1998. The M44B19 was discontinued in 1999. The M43B19 (117bhp) replaced both the M43B18 and M44B19 in 1999 and lasted to end of production.
The M44 engine is twin cam, the others are single cam. The additional 26 bhp makes a notable difference (having owned both an early 1.8 and 1.9 M44).
Hope this answers the question?

Just one other thought @Bartholomewzman, if you are considering a M44 make sure it has an OEM CAT in place. My experience is that after market cats do not work on the M44.
