Hi all, Despite the grey hairs I am still a a keen motorist who does most of his repairs' Maintenance as a hobby as well as an economy!, but although I have owned around 35 cars since the first, I have never had a BMW. The earlier "Z" is now in the Classics region for insurance and I am sorely tempted, to add one to the garage where a tired Triumph Spitfire is under restoration.
I have seen various articles on the 'net about what to look for with a 1.9 "Z", and am now in the 'starting-to-look' mode. I am in West Norfolk, and they do occasionally come up for sale locally - in fact one is available now so going to look it over Monday. (Wish me luck!)
If that doesn't work out then will keep looking, but have to say am surprised at how much the paintwork colour alters their desirability!! Why so many are very dark shades does surprise me - mind you, Green is lovely!.

Hi and welcome from me near Lincoln.
My Z3 was Oxford Green which, in some light, almost looked black.

Tony.

Hi, welcome from Mansfield

I’ve got a ‘97 1.9 in Arctic Silver and ‘97 2.8 in Montreal Blue.

One dark and one light, best of both ;)

Thanks to all for the welcome messages. I have sent off for the book by Fishwick, so that should complement the several older car mags now ordered off Ebay which have Buying articles on the "Z". 'Knowledge is power' they say, so crossed fingers for a decent car!
I am off to see two on Sunday - although one has admitted that there is rust in the wheel arches, which could be a bit of a 'downer'. If it's there - - where else might it be? Difficult to scramble underneath a low car when first seeing prospective 'buys' but will ask them if they could at least drive one side of the car up onto the pavement edge! . Neither have much in the way of any History, so that's another worry.
We shall see.
By the way, do Members of the Forum reckon that their cars are stable as regards 'depreciation' now - - or are actually even starting to rise a smidgen even? If so, is that likely to be mainly just the larger 'sportier' versions?
Cheers, Richard
