Not been to see the car yet - not able to get there until the weekend.
The bonnets are a beast on these things, could just need a tweek best case but could be more sinister worst case. Standard checks on slam panel and over sprat etc. Could be nothing though.

Hello and welcome from Truro. I have a 2.8 auto and can't speak highly enough of it. The engine is so torquey it seems you only need one gear.
I live in Cornwall and bought my car from Poole, Dorset so if it's the right car, or if you feel it might be the right car, then go and see it. Good luck

Z3
Good afternoon all, I am looking to purchase my first Z3 at the weekend. Being an Audi man normally I don't know a great deal about the Z3 other than it looks great! I've got my eye on this 2.2 auto with FSH and 95k on the clock. I know the 6 cylinder is generally bullet proof and mechanically I'm pretty accomplished however, are there any specific "gotchas" to be aware of beforehand. Secondly apart from the obvious power difference is a 2.2 or a 3.0 the better car?

Many thanks in advance,

Simin
Welcome to the forum from the other side of the pond. Can't answer your question as I have a 1.9 and a 3.2 at the time. Frankie

I've looked at a few close up pictures of several Z3's and the bonnet on the one I'm interested in definitely seems misaligned which is a little concerning - obviously I wont know until I view the car. It is making me think is the Z4 a better option?

It may be the bonnet, but it could be as simple as the bumper being out which is making the bonnet look wrong. Either way shouldn't be a biggy unless it's been in a front end bump!

Yes. But I've got both, so have the best of both worlds. That said the 3 is going to be sold next year, and will be without one for the first time in 7 years. It's better all round, but the Z3 is more classic roadster than the Z4 ever will. Has a little more soul to it. Just not as comfortable, or as composed on the road as the Z4 drives more like a 3 series saloon.

Thanks Gaz, I owe it to myself to have a look and see. There are some nice 2.8's kicking around but they are pretty big money anywhere from 3 - 8K!!

I think the key is look twice, spend once.

I do like Connor's Grey Z4 though!

I know mate and I appreciate your comments.

I'm at the point where I want a soft top for summer so I'm going through the whole process of checking the sites and rechecking to find the best bargain.

Keep this old saying in mind Simon, "Act in haste and repent at leisure". You have been many years without a Z3 or even a Z4 so what's the rush. I had my Z3 for 6 years and loved owning it, I only bought my Z4 a year last August and I already would have it over a Z3, mainly I admit, because I need to use it every day, all weathers. By far a better car for a daily one, and I think that's part of Gaz's reasoning.

Tony.

Thanks for that Tony, that is my sentiment exactly - there is no rush at all as the car I'm destined to have, either Z3 or Z4, will find me so it's all good. It's a case of setting your eye on something quite innocently and then realising when you put your head above the parapet, that there is indeed a lot more to consider and buy. It would appear that 3k will buy you a very nice 3 or 4.

Definitely, I did pay slightly more for mine last year, BUT, it did only have 16,500 miles on it, now 25,000. There are more different mods to do on a Z4 and that's part of the attraction for me too. I lowered mine this year, the first car I have ever done that on with good advice from Gaz and Lee, the GapTech roof opening/closing from your remote fob is just brilliant the list goes on. What ever you get enjoy.

I have to admit a 3.0l Z4, preferably in grey is starting to appeal. Like you say though, no need to rush and there are plenty around.

Does the bonnet shut line look OK to you?
It's quite likely it's just the bumper that's not lined up- they only held on my 2 bolts and the plastic mounts on the side and can easily be moved out of alignment with a small nudge.
The bumper/bonnet shut line is not the smallerst on these cars and can vary from car to car if you look closely.
If the bonnet was out that match it will be very obvious as it will be misaligned on the other side too so easy to spot I'd have thought when you view it.
