Hey guys,
Have been around BMW's a long time now having owned many M cars over the years from e30s m3s upto e39 m5s but ocasionally like to have something different to have a bit of fun with.

Signed up to see if I can gain some knowledge on the Z3 Roadsters and see if I can help other like minded owners out at too

I haven't owned a z3 roadster before so this will be a first, Will be going to view a 2001 Dakar Yellow Z3 1.9 Roadster with what looks to be a OEM Aerokit has lowish mile and in pretty good condition from what I can see.
Any tips on what I should be looking out for?
Current owner has owned just under a year and has mentioned following faults
Drivers seat has a small hole
Manual operating roof
Airbag light on
And service history misplaced

Thank you

Hi Abid welcome to the forum. Most, if not all early 1.9's had a manual roof as standard if my memory serves me correctly. You can get a leather refurbishing kit off Ebay which loads of people on here can vouch for, me included. You can get an airbag light reset tool quite cheaply too and it's usually something simple that triggers it to come on anyway so don't be too concerned about that.
When you go to look at it treat it like you would any 20yr old car, buy on condition and not mileage. A well looked after used car is often better than a low mileage garage queen.
When you find the car you want give it a good service yourself. Service history is good if you are planning to own the car short term then look to move it on, but if you are going to keep it long term then personally it wouldn't bother me.
Things to bare in mind or to budget for would be firstly, get a good diagnostic scanner or code reader, a suspension bush refresh, cooling system refresh but all in all Z3's are great little cars, easy to work on, don't cost a fortune to own and run and they guarantee loads of smiles per mile. Good luck mate

Hi and welcome from me in Scotland another Dakar owner. :welcome:
Dakar is still a fairly rare colour looking at the wheels car is possibly a sport model if it has full aero kit that is less common to see
Vin decoder would help you work out what it came with and what ( if anything) has been added

Great looking car and the manual roof is no problem. The electric roof on the Z3 is about as much use as the spare wheel ! Welcome and enjoy your car, just need to wait for some sunny weather.

Thanks guys

Collected the Z3 today ok it has a few bits to sort and some minor tlc but overall well pleased with it.

Will need to find a standard exhaust system as the powerflow is too loud for my liking also noticed pass rear wheel bearing is whining.

Check the spec on vin decoder and it comes up as a Sport also has an LSD from factory which is a bonus

Some pics for you guys

It does look nice Abid, you'll probably find a buyer for the exhaust system when you get it changed.
