Hello all. I wanted to take a minute and introduce myself. I am picking up my first-ever 1997 Z3 in quite good condition. It is a red 1997 5-speed with only 38,500 miles and appears to be in great shape. I know I have a lot to learn about my new ride and that's why I'm here. I hope to learn everything there is to know about it and want to keep in in the same great shape it's in. First off, I'd like to learn where I can go to find out exactly what it is from the VIN. What I know is it is a 6-cylinder with the battery in the trunk. It appears to have leather seats and there is even woodgrain in the center console. Hopefully I can find an owner's manual for it as it does not have the original. It appears to have a 6-disc CD changer in the trunk also and I did check the spot welds while there and they look just fine. Anyway, I hope to learn about how to properly perform maintenance and also wish to help others learn too. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi and welcome from me in Kissimmee, Florida (for another 2 1/2 weeks anyway) normally near Lincoln UK. If you search on line for a BMW Vin. Decoder and enter the last 6/7 digits of your car's VIN. you'll be able to see the spec. with which your car left the factory in Spartenburg SC.

Tony.

ps. Enjoy maintaining your new toy, it can be addictive

Hello and welcome to the forum. Here is a link to a copy of the owners manual. It is in the resource section in the resources section.

https://zroadster.org/resources/1997-bmw-z3-owners-manual.17/

As you get more familiar with the site you will discover a wealth of information is available.

Another very useful source for part numbers is realoem. Put in your vin and work through the text or diagrams to get the part number. It is not infallible but gets it right most of the time. www.realoem.com
If you are happy to do your own maintenance a code reader would be a good investment.
Also take a look in the wiki section of the forum. There are plenty of articles to inform and inspire.
Most importantly get out and enjoy driving your car. It has an indecently low number of miles on it and deserves to be used.
