Hi all,

Recently picked up a Z3 with the 2.8i engine after doing some reading about it's sports pedigree!

However, after driving it home and sitting in it for a while I feel like it's too much of a nice example to strip down and abuse!

After a little reading, it seems that the red and black sports interior with electric moving and heated seats is quite rare, coupled with the fact that the car is practically rust free and amazingly all the electrical components work flawlessly, also it has less than 100k miles. This brings me to think it would be a shame to turn it into a track focussed shell.

Am I being too sentimental and everyone's car looks like this or even in better condition, or is it worth perhaps touching it up in some areas and enjoying the full fat 1998 experience?

Many thanks in advance!

Very smart! It's a shame I couldn't find a black one they certainly look a little more special to me!

Don't trash it, looks a nice example. Keep it and enjoy the summer (if we get one)

The last thing you want on track is a knackered old rusty one...trust me I know =))

got to start with a good base.

That interior is on the rarer side. Sport seats are desireable maybe rather than rare but (Tanin) red in a pre-facelift car and with extended leather is rare in my view.

As others have said keep it fairly standard and enjoy it on the track.

Thanks for all the advice I think I may perhaps sell the seats (if I can) maybe put in some classic club racer seats or something as \i bet they alone weigh a ton!

They do.

And leather is not very good at holding you in on track - you’ll be hanging off the steering wheel trying not to fall out =))

It looks too nice to strip down to a track only level but you can still enjoy it on a track, quite a few of the guys on here do.
Either way, what ever you decide, it’s your car and welcome to the forum.

Tony.

Hi @zedsdead, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. I'd keep it standard and do some track days first to see how you get on. They're great fun:thumbsup:

Hi and :welcome: from Bonzo and Z3lda. The 2.8 is the supreme non ///M Z3. Your interior is virtually the same as mine and in great patinated condition. I like my Z3lda very original and Classic, but of course it's yours to do whatever you want to it. (Except putting //M badges on it.) :inpain:

:drinks:

You can still track it. As said above there’s a few of us who track our zeds. They also double up as nice show cars when not on track.

I still use the normal seats although they’re slippy as hell on track.

Yeah, I've taken Z3lda to Snetterton for a couple of BMWCC track days on the long circuit. Great fun. Brakes got a bit hot after the first one so I upgraded them a bit for the second one.

Bonzo.
