Well following on from sean d's thread I've done likewise. Bought this little number 'doon sarf' yesterday following getting the winning bid on ebay a week ago (went very cheap cos I think everyone had gone skeggy for their hols). Bought it purely for the hardtop and fitting kit, right colour too, and hope to cost me nothing when I move the car on again. When I got it home and had a nosey around found it has VERY RECENTLY had brand new sill covers and the black plastic jacking pads fitted - so they'll be 'falling off' also!!
The seller was a bit of an enthusiast and tracked a saloon bmw before bending it, the zed I bought he only had 6 weeks ago and only used it as a daily run around as bought a 2.2 instead with the intention of putting a 3 litre lump in. (you can see it in the background). I had a quick look at the 2.2 and immediately recognised it (by the dent in the boot lid) as the one @cheeseandbeans mentioned in his thread of July 4th on page 5 of the z roadster section under the title "Z3 for sale near me. Advice" The guy said he didn't pay anything like the £1500 asking price and that it was a Cat D which the ad on Gumtree didn't state. Small world eh?
Anyway 'my' zed drove a dream on the way back, a warm sunny day and desperate to drop the hood but couldn't due to the hardtop, still at least the aircon worked (he said casually !). Pleased with the car, came with tonneau and original first aid kit which being an anorak for the extras have been wanting for a while - ooh, has a full service history too :D
lights and new zed 032.webp

Looks a nice car and great the bits you want are the right colour win win

Yes Steve, when it's all polished to the hilt should look a right bobby dazzler. Nothing tatty about it, all in good order, fitted hands free car phone kit too. Ten months mot. Clear indicator lights I'll swop for amber ones off the breaker I had and sell the clear ones on. Got your door all sorted then?
Looks very nice Adrian

Yes mate but still got to swop the door handle over should have done it today but visiting mom my brother and doing the lawn followed by a power nap killed the day.

You wouldn't happen to have a spare set of sports that you would trade would you. :)

What a great looking Z :p
Well done ;)

I'm gutted I didn't go for that car now. The finances just weren't available at the time. That 2.2, does that have a hard top on now?

Also, the one you bought, you beat me on the bid for that at the last second on Ebay! No joke! Even more gutted about that now looking at the condition of it! Give me a shout if you're moving it on, I might be interested.

Oh dearie me. I assumed you had bought the 2.2, it had so many extras, sports seats, hoops etc it was a good buy. The guy had fitted the hardtop to it, he didn't say where he got it from. Was it listed as a Cat D on Gumtree?
The strange thing about the one I bought is that I wasn't aware of it's listing on ebay, I had just decided to have a look on ebay to see what's about, as you do, and that is when I saw it, it had about 6 mins to go so having seen how low the bid was thought it worth a read up on. A guy in Cornwall expressed interest. Apart from just one fresh bid in that 6 mins there was no movement, I thought 'all the action' will happen near the closing minute. I thought it worth a bid so put a max of £1310 in, my p.c was on go slow so thought it wouldn't register in time but as you say I literally won the auction with just one second to go! how close was that!! It turned out to be much better than I thought, but then I was only buying it for the hardtop and fitting kit. Sorry and all that, assumed the 2.2 had been bought by you. Perhaps we should put up a thread on items of interest to say "hands off".
Whilst on the subject of Gumtree, exercise caution with that site, it is known for scams. Last year a guy in Glasgow was selling a zed with hardtop at a good price. I basically got pretty close to going for it but things didn't seem quite right, it was photographed in a car park, the reg was not visible but what you could see of the number plate looked to be new and not sitting properly, he couldn't be visited at home either! I asked for the reg No. on the pretence of arranging insurance, when putting it through DVLA mot history site it didn't exist, my suspicions were confirmed. Be warned. P.S ebay own Gumtree.
