So what would people think one would cost 5k?
Not far off Q, maybe a little more depending upon the braking system imposed.
You then have the running cost of racing for the season on top of that.

Approx figures below?

Cost of car £500-1000
Cage fitted £1200 -1500
Wheels tyres 15" £1000 - £1200
Suspension £600 -£800
Exhaust £400 -£600
Brakes £600 - £1000
Polybushes £250
Fuel tank £250

Hi Everyone!

I thought it was about time to break cover on here - GFR (www.garyfeakinsracing.co.uk) are behind the technical development of the Z Cars Series and we have built the first cars as pictured;

In response to some of the questions asked I'll do my best to answer a few;

-Venues

We are working on a six round calendar currently, and Silverstone is a possibility for one of the meetings, as well as the fantastic MSV circuits such as Brands Hatch, Oulton Park and Snetterton, of course! A Silverstone Z meet sounds great!

-Weight

Fuel included in 'race ready weight' is 15 Litres. The car weighs 1044kg, less the standard hard top. We are working on a fibreglass roof skin for the Z3 and Z4 to reduce weight and provide readily available roof's, as original Z3 and Z4 hard top's are hard to find.

-Suspension

We have developed a suspension system in co-operation with GAZ Shocks which is readily available for purchase via ourselves (www.garyfeakinsracing.co.uk). The suspension is to our specification and we are the sole suppliers of this, having carried out all development work to design a suspension system that works well even with open differential cars. A variety of spring rates are available to cater for track day/road dual purpose cars, and fully fledged racers. As stated, UK a manufacturer of these dampers is of great benefit!

-Flywheel

A solid flywheel conversion kit is more suitable to track use, and is mainly for increased reliability.

-Costs

We are finalising the costings, but a self built car is a very cost effective way to go racing. We are offering self build kit's, all the way up to a fully built car. We currently have a total of 20 Z Cars in stock including Z3's and Z4's. More information, costings and final regulations to be released shortly.

Feel free to ask any questions and I'll do my best to help! - find us at;

Web - www.garyfeakinsracing.co.uk (we are BMW Motorsport specialists based near Reading, Berkshire)

Email - sales@garyfeakinsracing.co.uk (Technical and car information), zcars@msvracing.co.uk (General series information)

We look forward to hearing from you, and hope to see many of you on track soon!

Best Wishes,

Gary Feakins

Sounds like a great project, a big step up from track days. I will certainly be an interested spectator at events in the future.

Always get jealous of the Ginetta series or Porsche or Clio Cup events on Motor Sport UK, when I'm up at stupid o'clock watching it on TV.

@GaryFeakins are there no restrictions on seats and harnesses? Or tyres?

I suppose the last question is how much does entry to the racing series cost? Is insurance etc. required, race licences?

Cars look mint by the way!

Do you think a series of this type would suit Cadwell Park Brian ?

Tony.
Not sure it is wide enough @t-tony, great as a bike track and track day circuit but little tight in places. Could make for good racing though :)
