First time back onto the house on New Years day we bring in some coal and a coin for luck through the year. (It used to include a piece of firewood too).

Something we've always done all our lives and, guess what?, we've never been homeless or hungry so it must work eh?;)
What traditions do you have? Oh, and don't mention New Year Resolutions either (unless it's getting something for the Z . . . . . like a new exhaust maybe:))

Tony.

Sounds like the 'first footing' in Scotland. So long as its a dark haired male (a blond is no good - probably a viking).

You forgot the shortbread (a biscuit will do). And the Whisky. Dont forget the Whisky!

I dont do any traditions i just take each day, month, year at a time. I also do not believe in good or bad luck as i believe you make your own by the decisions we make throughout life

We did the coal thing when we first got married, nothing since then to be honest.

When I was a young girl we used to open the back and front door to let the new year in, and the old year out :)

It was what we were brought up with :p
The whole street used to go outside and sing and hug saying happy New Year , :)
The boats sounded their horns for for a few minutes too , we could hear them , as we were close to the river ;)

We get that but we dont live near a river must be the cars zooming down the road =))

Lots of Pagan rituals up North then :whistle:Do you still burn witches?=))

Only in Nottinghamshire, and then only if they're past eating ........................... =))=))

You over there at the moment Ken or is that a pic when you lived over there

No mate, when we lived there. We always had snow at some point each winter, sometimes a lot, but it would clear quickly. Spain does get cold in winter, especially at night. I know what you mean about New Year, it's just the next day to me ! Nothing changes much. Hope you're keeping well.

New Years resolution was to find two new 255/35/18 Michelin pilot sport 4 tyres for the rear of the coupe before lunch time today on internet. Failed miserably, but did find pilot super sport 94Y at a reasonable price so went ahead and ordered them, so do I still say failed miserably or can I say almost failed. No other resolutions made, thank goodness.

We "cekebrate" the New Year with kids and grands usually. When we lived in Alabama, our house was the gathering spot for 3 of the girls and our son, and families. Now they've spread further away, so it's usially one or two of the girls and their families. The last time I was out on New Years was with NYPD, when I had the detail in Times Square, ramrodding the half million or so people crammed in to watch the ball drop. As I recall it was about 14 degrees F with a wind chill of -2.

My parents did this, and I still do it now! Happy New Year to all!
