Has anybody recently changed their tyres from run flats to "standard" tyres? If so, what did you go for and were they any good? I need to change my rears before I put it back on the road.
I can understand that Gail. It's not such a problem for me as I only use the car for meets etc.I will need at least new rears on mine after the summer rims have been refurbished. We have been discussing the merits of ditching the run flats but it's just not worth the risk for me. I drive mostly alone on narrow but busy roads where ending up stranded just isn't worth the risk. Maybe one day when I give up the 25 mile commute to work 5 days a week.
Are you on 19" wheels?Has anybody recently changed their tyres from run flats to "standard" tyres? If so, what did you go for and were they any good? I need to change my rears before I put it back on the road.
Ian, I'm running 18" wheels at the moment with Goodyear run flats. Are the Ultrac's run flats? Are you on 19" wheels?
The ride on RFTs on 19s is really crashy and unforgiving. We put 17" Winter Sottozero RFTs on @Gail's and it is a much improved ride. Go to go back to the RFTs on 19"s soon though to get the staggered set up back.
Mine came running vred's Ultrac Vorte's on 18" - a much nicer ride and quiet too.
I waited till I got FULL USE out of them first. If they're really SUPPOSED TO BE RUN FLATS THEN................Has anybody recently changed their tyres from run flats to "standard" tyres? If so, what did you go for and were they any good? I need to change my rears before I put it back on the road.
No - standard tyres. I have a compressor and can of stuff in the boot.Ian, I'm running 18" wheels at the moment with Goodyear run flats. Are the Ultrac's run flats?

@FRANKIE - Gail hasn't seen the ones that came of hers last year. Not quite as bad as yours but one was almost a slick!
You know very well that burning rubber is very rarely my style!!!@FRANKIE - Gail hasn't seen the ones that came of hers last year. Not quite as bad as yours but one was almost a slick!
Just getting your moneys worth!
To be honest, it wore down much faster than I was expecting. All that burning rubber no doubt!
This was from very high speed driving (100+ mph driving) with @miller1098 coming back from California with the new car. We were lucky. Frankie Was caused by a bad diff bush. You know very well that burning rubber is very rarely my style!!!
I'm going for Eagle f1's as I need a full set.I have always used goodyear eagle f1's, they are a really good all rounder. I've even used them on the track.
I have Dunlop run flats on 17" rims at the moment. If I was keeping the 17" rims I would consider buying them again. They aren't too bad. When I buy my new 18" rims I'll probably go the Eagle f1 route.
Can I say it before anyone else, will that really be an issue lolAre they good wearing tyres as well @peteslag ?
