For 50K I'd be steering clear of ttrs, no where near special enough.

R8 on the other hand!
This is what I've got to get my head around.

New TTRS, faster than V8 R8, new car with 3 year warranty, all the latest tech/radio etc. Depreciation of £15,000 in three years estimated. A very nice little car.

Used R8 in my budget will be 8 years old, very expensive to repair, oil leaks very common, mag ride worries (£2000 bill) £515 road tax per annum. I reckon I'd have to put by at least £2000 per year for servicing/repairs. Lower depreciation in three years of £8000 estimated but of course higher repair costs.

So I guess taking all costs and depreciation into account they'll both cost around the same to own.

Viewed an R8 today priced at £45,000 and it was not a good one, panel gaps wrong, 8 owners, questionable service history, and the passenger seat was worn as well as drivers seat. Having said that, I'm sure there will be a nice one out there somewhere for under 50k

To be honest, you'll probably need to go higher than the 50K to get a good one. As you are finding interiors worn, and multiple owners etc. They are the sort of car folks want to own, they have them for a couple of years max, and move them on - usually when big bills come up.

Regarding the 0-60 times - manufacturers totally wreck a number of cars trying to achieve the figure they get, once they cant a quicker value they declare what's achievable. Doubtful normal folks would get that or would want to subject their car to those extremes. The figures are comparable though between marques, if generally unobtainable.

Haven really heard much good reports on TTRS in other places, and for that sort of money I think I'd spend it elsewhere ;), but depends on what you want really.

Tax wise you will be looking similar to the R8 for the first 6 years unless you can get it bought sharpish.

Yes, read varied reports on the TTRS, loved it apart from the delay in it giving you the power.

I guess 1. it has to change down a gear 2. Big turbo has to spool up.

I've had Porsches on and off the last few years, next one if I go that way would be a Cayman GTS but a little over budget really, and if Porsche announce a 718 Gts with a flat six engine the prices of the 981 will drop considerably overnight. Bit of a worry.

Ruled out Alfa 4c, BMW M2, Astons, Nissan GTR.

Have you considered a Giulia QV?
It might be a bit above the range you're looking but I swear it's worth every penny. And handles like it's much smaller than it really is. :D

Think I've ruled out an R8, saw one today and the history showed it'd had a new engine.

The warranty offered with the car wouldn't cover the things likely to go wrong, ie oil leaks, mag ride leaks etc..

So I'm road testing the TTRS again tomorrow, I'm thinking to get more instant power you probably have to downshift using the paddle just before you need power, I could live with that.

Not sure I'm brave enough to buy an Alfa, I've heard they're better than they used to be, but still a worry.

And I think the depreciation would be higher also.

Nice problem to have, good luck in your search.

No idea about the price bracket. One day maybe, but some of the jag xk range then the new f type are beautiful

The deed is done, picking up the TTRS Wednesday.

For the performance figures/price it won.

And proper warranty until Dec 2019

Came close to a used R8 but seeing some repair bills on them I bottled it, and the TTRS is quicker than a V8 early R8, amongst many other very expensive cars.

So let the hairdressers jokes commence, I'm ready.

Thanks chaps, I'll drive it for a bit and do a review/pics.

Can't believe the insurance is only £397

I've been toying with the idea of buying either an M3 V8 or a TTRS for a while now. On paper they both look really quick and 4WD on the TT is a bonus. Hmmm, after the extension is finished I might have to book a test drive.

The second hand R8 would have gone one of two ways, immense fun or the single biggest mistake you ever made!

Pop down to Cambridgeshire one day and have a closer look at the TT. I've not driven a late M3 myself but I've heard they're truly awesome.

Picked it up today, it's certainly a car with a lot of drama, the noise really is addictive, it's really easy to drive which is good for the missus.

Took a while to work out the drive settings.

The problem I had on test drive with the delay in power was because the sales guy didn't have the car in dynamic sports. In the comfort setting the car's quite dosile.

It certainly is quick but doesn't feel as quick as I expected. You realise your going fast when the next bend is coming up, but it's very composed so would be a car that'd be very easy to get into trouble in not realising how fast you're actually going.

Interior is beautiful, I thought it'd be a let down as I've just sold a late Porsche which had the extended leather dash/doors, but the Audi style is very nice and feels well made.

The virtual dash is going to take some learning.

I'll post some more pics when I've worked out how to scrub out the number plate on photo edit.

So after a few hours of driving i'm pleased with it, it was an awful lot of money for a TT which concerned me, but it really is fun, the noise alone makes me giggle, think I'm going to get complaints from the neighbours.

Salesman reckons there's 200 or so cars in the country, no more new ones due until later in the year, so pretty exclusive at the moment. But saying that, to anyone that doesn't read car mags it'll just look like another TT, that's until they hear you drive up the road, it really does sound like a rally car.

I'll report back some more in a week or so.

Nice one. Looks a stunning car. If it sounds as good as it looks, you're in for happy motoring.

So I've been spending some time on the TT forum.

Unbelievable.

I'm starting to understand why so many Audis are driven badly/aggressively on the road.

Many of the people posting are either aggressive, totally negative about the product, or just out to slag each other off.

They all should come on here and see/learn how a forum should be, friendly, helpful, and very informative from like minded happy owners.

I'm sure if the TT forum ever has a meet it'll end up in a brawl.

Don't worry in a few years time they'll probably shift to a different marque - probably Merc. After all most of them used to favour BMWs

Just goes around really, same twunts on the road, different fashionable badge :D

I take it you're enjoying it then :coolsteer) ?

Enjoying the car yes, shocked at the forum.

I'll probably be keeping this one longer than I do most cars, can't think what I'd replace it with at the moment without spending a lot more cash. And the noise it makes is still making me giggle.
