So, I'm looking at rims for MrZed and I'm not quite sure about a few things.
Looking at the book for my 2000 z3 2.3 roadster, it recommends (strongly?) to stagger the tire sizes. My book covers 2.3, 2.8 and M. Both specs for the 2.3/2.8 are the same, the M has a slightly larger rim 9jx17 AH2 as opposed to 8.5jx17.
Assumption 1
I see that for the M and non M the tire size for the rear is 245/40 ZR 17. I guess the rim size really isn't a big deal 8.5" to 9"? My assumption is, if I like a set of rims, but they only come in 9" no big deal. I believe I understand why the staggered size wheels, as a RWD, you want a fatter tire (more surface) on the road for the HP. But, the 2.3 model has a 170 HP, and after some basic mods, maybe 190 ish range. Is a wider tire in the back really needed? Buying a tire at discount tire, a chanine in the states gives you free lifetime rotation and balancing. So, if I make the tires the same, I can rotate them. However, the book suggests that same size tires will upset the beast. ????
Assumption 2
The book doesn't mention 18". I'm not sure if it is really not recommended or not popular in 2000? What are the benefits for going with one size versus another size other than looks?
Assumption 3
Currently, MrZed has 16's. I'm planning on getting new rims, most likely in 17's. I was going to keep the 16's which have all the same tire sizes for winter, 17's for good weather.
The rims I'm looking at is this:
TSW Stowe 17 X8 5-120.00
There is two versions of this rim, both are 17x8.5, but one has a 35 offset and the other 20. Which one do I need/get?
It's so much easier with my Jeep, small crappy rims because your going to trash them, big tires, so you have room to deflate them is needed and lift. All the same tire so you can do a 5 wheel rotation. Simple.
