Hi all bought a z3 2.8 a few weeks ago already got a problem ,it doesn't run right so plugged in a code reader and 9 faults came up and 1 pending ,p0300,p0303,p0301,p0304,p0306,p0305,p0170,p0173,p0173,p0300 any ideas or should I just get to a diagnostic centre.thanks for any info Sean

Your best bet as you have just bought it clear the codes take it a quick run and see what comes back and deal with them that's where I would start.

Hi again been out tonight seemed to run ok but on Sunday it was really lumpy on tickoevrt then when engaged gear wouldn't rev up, will reset codes at weekend then try again ,it's a 1999 model think it's the twin vanos ,to be truthful it's all new to me.but thanks for all the welcomes from everybody and all the suggetions Sean

P0170 Fuel Trim Bank 1
P0173 Fuel Trim Bank 2
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
P0301 Cylinder 1 Misfire detected
P0303 Cylinder 3. “. “
P0304 Cylinder 4. “. “
P0305 Cylinder 5. “. “
P0306 Cylinder 6. “. “

These codes appear to be the same for all the various engines

As it's showing 'fuel trim' codes I would check the large rubber hoses that run from the air liter to the inlet as thes are well known for splitting and perishing allowing too much air into the inlet side. The usually split aroung the flexible parts and where some of the vacuum hoses are joined to it.
After that check the plugs are ok.

PS where about are you based as a local owner may be able to come and have a look with you.

These are generic codes for all engines. Where are you located @Sean stockdale ?
I agree with Garry sounds like a timing sensor isdue be it crank or camshaft.
