Hello! I'm a longtime fan of the marque, have owned a couple BMWs in the past ('88 E30, '06 E60) and have rooted for their motorsports for years. Just bought an '02 z3 3.0i Roadster as a 50th birthday present to myself, and I'm chuffed. It starts, runs and stops like a dream. It will also be a project for me and my 7 y/o son to tinker with, so good all the way around. Current large issues are leaky hardtop (A pillar gap), non-existent soft top window, and a couple of weird noises that I'd like to identify. Anyway, glad to be here, look forward to learning a lot. Thanks!

if your A pillar is leaking that's not the hardtop that will be the door/quarter light seal. The HT only fixes across the top of the windscreen at the front so the leak will be there if the soft top is up too....unless you mean the top of the windscreen?

Hey thank you for the welcome. I've researched it a bit, but the first big hurdle is closing the 3mm gaps on both sides caused by a mounting issue by the PO LOL. Then I can sort out the seal/drainage issue. I have a very amusing story that I can tell at parties now about how I went to a brushless car wash to test the seals...

That's a harsh way to learn though:( I had a similar issue, out at a darts match a few years ago and it rained, sideways during the evening and I came out of the Pub to a lake on my seat.

Anyways, welcome from me near Lincoln, UK. That's a good looking car.

Tony.

Oof that's rough. Yeah, picture 50 y/o me, pulling out of the wash bay bare-chested because I am plugging one side up with my t-shirt...

Ha,Ha. Yes I was struggling to find enough tissues and cloths to soak it up. I was 54 around then and no way was I taking my shirt off at 11.00pm on a winter's Monday night.=))

Tony.

ps. I did forget to ask, is the Z4 Coupe owner someone you know?

Hi @adills, :welcome: to the forum from me too, across the pond in Staffordshire, UK. You may want to try loosening off the hardtop front screws and unlocking the rear mounts then re-tightening the front first. It may be the PO tightened the rears before the front, just a thought;)
