just sprayed my sills and front bumper, I used epoxy mastic first just to make sure the rust don't come back then used sand-able high build epoxy primer and blocked sanded it all down then last coat of primer and then the base/clearcoat and its come out nice, I posed pics somewhere..... I have a compressor and spayguns I use for small jobs but was worried It would not keep up with larger stuff so brought this http://www.screwfix.com/p/earlex-hv5500-650w-hvlp-professional-paint-sprayer-220-240v/50944 and it was sooooooo easy to use and a great finish without disturbing the neighbours as it just sounds like a vacuum cleaner but you will need to order other tips and it only comes with a 2mm tip and there is very very little over spray

Sorry not good at taking photo's I keep forgetting, I really wanted to do a blow by blow photo blog but my memory's terrible https://zroadster.org/threads/been-busy.18803/ That is the thread, The way I see it now there is loads of paint left over so I could basically paint the rest for free also I think the sills and the bumper were the hardest parts to spray so the rest is going to be easier with luck I brought a tent/shed thing from e-bay and set up extractor fan with filters i.e carbon filters ect and no smell of paint outside at all but as each coat on a sill takes seconds It turns out not to have been a big issue as I thought and there was almost no over spray, only problem was heat.......... must have reached 50c in there and some of the gaffer tape to seal up edges ect started to fall off and when I took my face mask off about a pint of sweat came out!

A decent body shop will have all the right tools and equipment, plus the experience of painting things! If you can get a professional job done for £150, it's a no brainer for me - unless you have the time and desire to develop the skill of course.

Got the old sills off today. As others have said, a huge amount of damp silt gets behind the arch liners and rots the ends away which is a pity as the rest of the metal isn't that bad.

When I put the arch liners back in I'll try to seal them to the sill/wing with silicone or similar to minimise the ingress.

I didn't mange to get the left hand rear wing off today as it wasn't obvious how to part it from the aerial base, so if anyone can point me in the right direction please you will have my thanks.

I've recently removed both sills. The off- side was corroded at the aft end. It seemed worse as I removed the grey seam sealer installed on production. The sealer had become porous and it was holding moisture in against the inner surface of the the sill with predictable results. The tin worm had munched several holes through it. The near side had started to go the same way but not as bad and I can refit the original. I plan to protect the inner surface with paint plus a coat of dinitrol corrosion inhibiting fluid that dries with a shiny finish. Hopefully that will sort it for the next twenty plus years!

I used epoxy mastic from rust.co.uk and it has a nice satin finish when sprayed and you can paint over it, once it dries the only way to get it off is to grind it....... the best stuff I have used and no I don't work for them

Did mine earlier in the year, mine were very clean, no rust on outers or inners coated the outers insides with black Waxoyle and sprayed clear Waxoyle on and into the inners. I had to replace a few trim clips as some broke when stripping down. My car has had an easy life just under 40k on the clock for a 1999 build car.

What a nightmare it has been to get these painted so far. I took the sills and the rear wings to a local bodyshop, MAS in Sittingbourne on 18th August. 'Middle of next week' was the first estimate and to be fair, they've consistently stuck with that whenever I've enquired. Unfortunately several middle of next weeks have passed. I last spoke to the boss on Saturday when he said 'painting them today' 'polishing them on Monday'. I wasn't sure why they would need to be polished but I said I could live with collecting them on Monday. Today I went to see what was going on and, the boss being absent, I got to speak to the sprayer who said that they were 'all prepped ready for primer'. - But the boss painted them on Saturday didn't he? I've now been promised that I can collect them tomorrow but of course I'm now concerned that its going to be a rushed job.....

I've been pondering doing the tent-self spray myself too. I was planning to use my compressor, but the electric one seems a pretty good idea too, so thanks for the tip on that.

So tent like 3x6m outside, tarpolin under there, seal the whole place against the weather, use a big fan for extraction and a filter on the other side of the tent. Full face mask. For curing I've got a 1000W halogen lamp that will probably be perfect.

Where do you guys get the paint from? Clear coat? online?

Basically, what would be the best bulletproof sandwich you would go for, if re-spraying all the panels?

https://www.jawel.co.uk/ is what I used and its great paint, be careful what fan you use as you have to have a spark proof fan unless you want to blow up they are expensive unless like me you find out a bilge fume clearing air pump is also spark proof and cheap I always use epoxy mastic on the inside first them cover the whole thing with epoxy primer the 2pak high build then a sealer then base clear coat except for last time I tried there new sand-able epoxy primer and found it was perfect to just wet sand 400 grit and paint

That happens all too often...if they still not done just get them back and give them to @Tim beard in Bexley, no messing and proper job.
