So I ordered these on Wednesday and collected them this morning from Broad Oak BMW at Ashford Kent. They were helpful and friendly and gave me 10% discount without asking. ( I owned a couple of 3 series and this is a complete contrast to my more local BMW dealer!). So many thanks Broad Oak.

I think I'm going to paint these myself (maybe) but there is more than one producer of Stone Guard - which is the one to use please?

Gravigard I believe to get the same finish. I asked the same question recently, bought some but haven't used it yet.

On Youtube..... they always seem to go for 2 pack/2k aerosol paints - are these worth considering for primer or clear coat?

I went to a company that supplies / mixes for the trade and got my rattle cans made up, couldn't tell you what was in them but got a great finish

I did the same. They will not only match to your shade but the quality will be superior to Halfords.

Good on you for doing it yourself but you will not get the correct finish out of a rattle can and it will not be 2k so will not be as durable, just seems a shame with the cost of the sills that they will be compromised.

Can't disagree with that.

I agree, why not spend a little more and have them properly done?

By the time you have bought all the paint and consumable you won't be far off a pro job in terms of cost and regardless of how good you can do it it will still be a rattle can finish

What do you think a reasonable cost would be for painting the sills?

I probably need the whole car doing but wasn't looking to do that right now.

I was quoted 'about £150' this morning locally but he didn't seem very keen on Gravitex. Does that sound like its in the right ball park?

Sounds top banana if he does a good job.

A big body shop might charge double that.

And I wouldn't worry what stone chip he uses if it does the job and looks OEM.
It wasn't that, he was questioning the need for stone chip at all, but then he seemed to have convinced himself that my car had plastic sills despite what I had told him so I left it there for today.

just sprayed my sills and front bumper, I used epoxy mastic first just to make sure the rust don't come back then used sand-able high build epoxy primer and blocked sanded it all down then last coat of primer and then the base/clearcoat and its come out nice, I posed pics somewhere..... I have a compressor and spayguns I use for small jobs but was worried It would not keep up with larger stuff so brought this http://www.screwfix.com/p/earlex-hv5500-650w-hvlp-professional-paint-sprayer-220-240v/50944 and it was sooooooo easy to use and a great finish without disturbing the neighbours as it just sounds like a vacuum cleaner but you will need to order other tips and it only comes with a 2mm tip and there is very very little over spray :)

I used https://www.jawel.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2808 for the stone chip paint :)
