Finally the day has come for my new roof, awake really early to make sure I wasn’t late, called in at Ogmore for a last photo opportunity with the old roof.

See where the stitching is coming undone and coming apart at the top.

Arrived at Jack Smith’s before 9, he was already getting stuck into a MX5.
His son David started on mine straight away.

By the way Jack Smith was the grandfather who started the company Jack Smith Trimmers before the war, and was passed down to Raymond Pugh (in the photo) who now runs it with his son David.

Fitting of the rear window isn’t done until the last minute before the roof is fitted.

The workshop is small, just enough room for one car.

Final photos once I arrived home, you can still see chalk lines where the stitch lines are, was told to leave washing them off until the sealant sets.
Very pleased with the finish, at £300 its a bargain.
Will take better photos once I’ve cleaned the car.

That does look like a really great job! Already have mine booked in with him on the 18th June... earliest he could fit me in :)
One question - I did read on an MX5 forum that he uses the old windows from the last car he's done but it doesn't look like it on your car - can you confirm this isn't the case please?

I think he re uses some glass windows from old MX5 and Honda roofs if they are serviceable and good enough to use as they need to be bonded in which cant be done on the day obviously, but Z3 windows are new.

That makes more sense. It does look really nice... making me think I might go for blue rather than black

Red looks good with silver.
Yep, it's silver. Red does look good but not really my colour so I'm sure I'll end up sticking with black. Still as we all say the roof should be down most of the time :)
