Heading to Swansea tomorrow to get a new softop by the legendary Raymond at Jack Smith Trimmers - any tips to while away the hours waiting for the job to be done?

The beach is about 5 mins walk way from his workshop and there is a really nice cafe pretty much where you'll arrive at the beach, if that makes sense (The Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen). If you hit the beach and turn left then there is a nice promenade that will take you into town (c. 30 min walk). Or you can go the other way and walk right around the bay to Mumbles.

The job only takes a few hours though, so expect to get a call around lunchtime if you drop it off in the morning.

(Edit to add: it's a really nice sandy beach by the way, not a horrible rocky/pebbley one)

I was there on quite a miserable day. Walked around town and the museum area, but most things were still closed at 8:30. I spent a few hours at a coffee shop and was back to pick up by 12. Beach might be the way to go.

Well just literally back from Raymond Pughs - great work and a very funny chap to boot! My Z3ddie past the 100000 mark on the way home and didn't miss a beat on the almost 400 mile round trip - but the sound of the Satnav ladies voice saying stay on the M4 for 143 miles almost broke my sprit! Seriously though what are we going to do when Raymond pack up tools????

Clearly I need to get booked in at that price and the number of positive recommendations I have seen.

It’s a bit sad that he doesn’t have an apprentice working with him. I suspect he’d be a bit dearer if he did.

I presume that when it was Jack Smith Raymond was his righthans man ?
He does a first class job and a very fair price had mine done about 6 years ago still like new.
Spoke to him today with a quetion about water coming in where the rubber seal is grouved for it to bend when opening and shutting on my latest purchas that had the roof down for a large amount of time and his advice was very helpful a nice chap to talk with. Geoff

Jack Smith was Raymond's father-in-law - if I understood him right.

He started the business by putting canvas roofs on army vehicles in the war when there was a metal shortage.

fascinating stuff (providing I understood him through the accent correctly 🤣)
