Some new parts have arrived over the week and some old ones have been refurbished! Expensive week but I'm sure it'll be worth it once its all on the car

I had the power steering rack remanufactured by a company in Wakefield, sent the rack on Tuesday and it arrived back today, so a good turn around. The rack looks okay, but can see in certain places where it looks like the powdercoating/painting process has been rushed.

Having similar thoughts here Lee.
This car is going to be a Minter.

All fitted :)

Unfortunately, I threw my old tie rods away so wasn't able to use them as a rough guide to align the wheels.

The alignment was so off that the steering wheel wouldn't return to centre after turning and all I could hear was squealing everytime I cornered.

Alignment done today and so far so good. Only thing left to do now is check that all bolts are tight after a short run

Also weird issue with the power steering fluid reservoir. Filled it up with fluid and did the bleeding procedure which is to turn the wheel left to right. No bubbles to be seen but if you turn thr wheel when the cap is on and the car is turned off (so the pump isnt running) fluid escapes from the vent hole in the cap.

Normal for steering to do that Faheem, it's because you're pushing fluid out of the ram back into the resevoir, but, because the pump isn't running and pushing fluid inti the system the reservoir is too full. So the only way it can escape is through the bleed hole.
This is why all steering checks carried out on an MOT should be done with engine running.

Tony.

Looking great Faheem just as good as having a brand new car. I’ve got mine to do when I eventually get round to assembling the rear end. Good idea about getting the steering rack serviced.
My rack had been weeping since I bought the car and to me it made more sense having it rebuilt then paying for a second hand one even though it costs a few quid more having it rebuilt.

Fingers crossed I have all the major leaks nailed now.

and this was the guy that thought he would have struggled to fit a little tree are freshener at one time.
Now look at you Faheem.

Engine swaps are now no problem...
That’s good to know Gookah and Faheem, as this is exactly the sort of thing I’d like to do to my 2.8 this winter, but have been wondering if I’ve got the capabilities. Doesn’t seem so daunting now.

Ha ha! That is very true Pete, 4 years ago I wouldn't have been able to tell you where the windscreen washer reservoir was! Still don't think I'd be able to do an engine swap - it seems like a massive job but it is definitely on the list ....or a supercharger. The M44 is just so slow but can't get rid of it after the work I've put into it. Pretty sure my 1.4 diesel Polo pulls better than the Zed does.

Great work there buddy

I know the feeling @Faheem about not wanting to part with it.

My Silver 1.9 Z3 was my first one. It started pretty standard:

Now looks like this:
FE369849-2FFC-4A62-A77E-715143DC8F9E.jpeg

Done so much to it and it drives great, just needs more power :(

If I’m able to find one I’d like to do a 3.0ltr transplant.
