Hi Everyone,
So this is the story so far, I am a mechanical Engineer and in the past I have worked within the motor trade so no stranger to cars!
Since I was able to I have owned and still am a fanatical motorcyclist.
I must confess I have never had any interest in cars! To me they are a means to commute”.
That said I just seen the Z4 and it just appealed to me!
So I have taken the plunge and bought myself what I hope will be a bit of fun!
I purchased it with faults! Roof didn’t function and it feels as though there is a hinge in the middle
So I have set about fixing the roof problem and that task was a fairly easy fix ( roof removed pump repaired and roof refitted ) with the pump relocated to the boot. The Emergency cable had seized so I stripped it and made a new one (no way was I going to pay £50 for a cable).
So to sum up I’m looking forward to some interesting posts

Hey Peter, welcome from me near Lincoln. I'm guessing you bought the E85 Z4 (considering the roof issue?) Was the "hinge in the middle" referring to the roof? or something else? Where are you located please?

Tony.

Hi @Peter Macgregor, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. The roof motor is a common problem on the E85, you've sorted that out, now onto the next;)

Hi Tony
I’m located in north wales , as for the hinge ,I was referring to the handling!
It’s covered 65,000 but it’s not steady so it’ll be onto the steering / suspension to investigate

I did wonder if that was where you were leading.
Front lower arm rear bushes a likely suspect but another possibility is the sticky steering which can occur. There's a thread running about that now. It can make the car feel a bit twitchy.

Tony.
