Our current one is a Toshiba,It's ancient now but still works, very slowly and gets hot quick.
Had Dell in mind as they have a good reputation.
We did walk away today at curry's for the very reason you mentioned,I felt pressurised and hurried.
It doesn't need to be quite as bomb proof now,as the kids aren't really kids any more......thank the lord .
I'll have a look online over the weekend Ian,so may have more questions to ask you ;).
No Problem Steve.
BTW - Many companies use Dell for a reason.

They're on the pricier side though aren't they ?.
Indeed - Comes under the "You get what you pay for" category. Well spec'd, well put together, very portable.
It is a different operating system which takes a little getting used to when you have used Windows for years. Lots of learning to do.
But, then again, Windows 10 is so different to W7 or Vista that its learning pretty much from scratch for many.

Give me a Mac any day!

Yep, they cant afford HP......
That says a great deal Mike! Why pay for the name?
HP slipped from top spot to second globally after Lenovo. Dell are third.

Why pay for the name?
You pay for the technology.
I bought a 22" Screen HP Touchsmart with bluetooth keyboard and mouse 8 years ago and I am still using it.
They were the first to come up with this idea, no big tower stuck under your desk.

Office 365 is now a yearly fee which usually can be added to around 3 or 5 pcs and tablets. If i buy a new laptop all i have to do is download the office and log in so long as i have not used up all my allowances. At the moment i have it on 2 laptops at home and my son and daughter have it on theirs off my account

Sounds like you're buying for the business so can be offset against tax can't it?

Most come with Office 365 which you pay for monthly. That's a little more complex to navigate.
Do you use an email client (e.g. Outlook?)
Do you need to work offline from the internet?
Need to make sure your requirements are covered.

Yes it will be paid for via the business so it will offset against tax next year.
I don't know what you mean by working off line from the internet Ian.
For emails we use sky.

We buy these at work now, although we buy the top spec'd i7 processor 16GB versions. Get it from John Lewis and they give you a 3 year guarantee on it (compared to Dells own standard 1 year). Another £70 will get you 3 years accidental damage on top.

It's a 2 in 1, which means you can use it as a tablet as well as a laptop. 13.3 inch screen so not as big to lug around as a full sized laptop, and a reasonable sized SSD drive (don't bother with "spinning drives" any more, the only advantage is larger capacity).

Do you need to be able to read any old emails when you're not connected to the internet? If you do you need an app that downloads emails to your laptop.
We've all become used to being connected all the time, but, if you're working away from home you may not have access to the internet.
It sounds like you only use email while connected though.

I use 5 or more different email addresses for various things - switching between providers would be a nightmare. I have years of emails stored locally. Much quicker to search and find things too when they are all in one place.

Nice bit of kit (although quoting the camera as HD when it clearly isn't is a bit naughty)
