Hi All - just introducing myself to the forum.

I've been a longtime admirer of the Z3 and Z4 and keen to dip my toe in the water so to speak.

I'm based down in sunny Hampshire....10 miles north of Portsmouth.

I am looking at either a Z3 or Z4...I'm drawn to the retro look of the 3 but also love the Bangle lines of the 4 and it's extra rigidity

There appear to be a few nice 3s near me, both 2.2, one is Estoril the other Dakar and up for similar £

What should I buy? Help
Z3 ;) I am selling mine.

Hi @Retrospective Soothsayer,:welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. As said above you need to drive the different versions of the Zeds. I used to have a Z4 as well as the Z3 and they are totally different cars. Good luck with your search and enjoy it:thumbsup:

Thanks all

I've driven a fairly ropey looking Z4 2.5 today (as it was very local) and it was actually pretty good and I preferred the drive over the Z3s I've driven recently.

The Z4 just felt a little more refined and def had less scuttle shake and extra power of the 2.5 added to the fun.

So whilst my heart wants the Z3, (love it's looks) my head says Z4 as I know I'll get frustrated with the Z3 rattles and scuttle shake over time.

On the hunt for a decent Z4 I think

Interesting, my Z3 has minimal discernible scuttle shake and no rattles. Might be worth trying another one?:)

Yes you may be right on that front Ianmc...curiously though none of the Z3's I've driven have been bargain basement sheds so am beginning to think that this is just 'how they are'

For similar money to those Z3's I can buy a lower mileage Z4 so its tricky...i think I need a ride in a known sorted Z3 to convince me :)

^^ exactly this. Most likely going to be worn suspension components, so trying others should give you an idea on whether this one is just in need of work.

May be a good buy as a doer upper if the price is right!

Look about and test drive a number of Zeds - if time is on your side. You will know the one for you. Any work needs doing has to be enjoyable and minimal plus factor in the usual spends on bling and main potential upgrades before purchase.:)

Take your time and look at several cars. I suppose it depends how flexible you are as to which Z 3 or 4, exterior colour, interior colour and options fitted to the car. If you choose a BMW approved used you will get a 12 month BMW warranty with roadside assistance and MOT cover but you will pay a premium price. If you buy it private or from a non BMW dealer your on your own basically. Having said that I bought my Z4 from a VW dealership and they gave me the same warranty and roadside assistance as BMW would but I'm not holding my hopes up about how its going to work and to be honest I would rather not find out?

Let us know the outcome of your search and look forward to hours of pleasure when you finally find the right car whichever Z it is?
