Just purchased a lovely illuminated type gear knob from All4cars ltd, it lights up blue . Now the problem is the existing wires on the car are red/white for positive and brown for negative, but the new wires are red and blue,

One would assume red to be positive but the retailer says the wire with the small knot in is the positive, this happens to be the blue wire so the red must be negative. Is there an easy way to check without blowing a fuse... (thats on the car not me)

Why didnt i think of that, would that be the gas meter or electric meter :D One doesnt have one. :p

grab a 9v battery from a smoke alarm and touch the wires to the contacts, will be drawing 12v form the car so that *shouldnt* be a problem (while since i studied electronics)

Best thing to do Paul is sell it and buy a storm gear knob.... :o)

Guess.

If the gear knob lights up its correct

If you light up its wrong :steer1)

ps are you sure the existing brown is negative x_x

Thanks guys, the 9v battery sounds good..
