How does the handbrake lever fit on a Z4?
Not sure about the Z4 but on the Z3 you pull the leather Gaitor back over the handbrake and then you can access the plastic handle and pull it off. I cut mine off with a stanley knife as I was replacing with the metal one. It just slides back onto the hand brake bar.

Mine took quite a bit of force to pull off. Looked a right pillock with the roof down struggling to yank it off
