My daily drivers now are the Z3 1.9 (obtain 40 mpg overall) and an E36 323i conv (34 mpg overall). Both great to drive, and some style - IMO of course:)

Missed a character off the beginning of the reg so whilst its technically incorrect it was still meant for my car.

Either way went to pay it but with the details I've been given, I can't... So there's not much I can do.
It's the issuers mistake Faheem not yours. A car with the incorrect reg. No. is not registered to you.

Tony.

I got pulled over several years ago during our check stop program looking for drunks. Fortunately I hadn't had a drop! Surprise!! Anyhow the cop was a real ass***e and gave me a ticket for driving without a license. I had just paid it that afternoon and hadn't made it to their computer yet I guess. He wrote down that I was driving a blue Volvo Wagon when it was silver, then he ticketed because my son didn't have a seat belt on when all Nik had done was turn around when the flashers came on. Wrote a letter pointing out all the errors and asked to have the case held locally due to my illness. Never heard back, never got a summons but did add that officer badge # xxxx was very rude not only to me but my son!! So Justice still prevails!! @Faheem JIM

Thanks Jim @oldcarman, I have done my research and as the penalty charge notice clearly wasn't addressed to my vehicle, I'm not going to take any note of it. They'll hit a dead end when they try and contact the owner as a vehicle with that reg doesn't exist! And on that note, Merry Christmas!

Update on this.

Brakes weren't working properly, I knew there was something wrong so carried out a strip down last weekend

One of the guide pins was missing!!! How is that possible?! and looked as though the threads from the hub had been completely stripped, so bought a helicoil kit and tapped some in myself, worked a charm.

That was the first time I've ever tapped in threads.

Caliper on the other side had the dust boot torn from the piston, so picked up a replacement for dirt cheap from a scrappy.

Slight knock which had begun to develop which was the ARB bushes so swapped those out.

These aren't expensive fixes just time consuming when you don't have the car on a lift or air tools.

Now theres a creaking from the rear O/S thats developed but the MOT is due soon so I'll take it in and see what they say.

Plan is to get rid later this year and get something a bit newer.

No complaints with fuel efficiency though, getting 450-500 miles depending on driving style from 39 litres of diesel.

All been good so far with no unexpected expenses just oil changes.

A concrete pillar did get in the way a few months ago. That was fixed up today with the help of some rattle cans, body filler and a big hammer.

Just got to wetsand the lacquer and polish in a couple of days

Not perfect by any means but its just about passable and from 10 m away you can't even tell.

I've had many vw over the years. Several Golfs, a couple of Scirrocco and a Passat. All have been good cars. Almost bought a Passat CC in 2010 but swayed to a Saab at the last minute.
I had a scirrocco many moons ago. I still remember how much fun that car was to drive.
